Which name is cooler?

Okay.

[name_m]Austin[/name_m] or [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m].

As a name, I think [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] is cooler because it’s ancient, mythic, and uncommon (at least where I live). It feels knightly and mystical and strong, and has a “wow factor” that [name_m]Austin[/name_m] doesn’t.

However, [name_m]Austin[/name_m] sounds more like the cool, popular guy than [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] does. [name_m]Austin[/name_m] feels sporty with an artistic edge, charismatic and laid-back. In a book or movie, I’d expect a character named [name_m]Austin[/name_m] to be cool – it’s just a quintessential cool guy name.

So I guess as a name alone, I’d say [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m], but for the type of person who comes to mind, [name_m]Austin[/name_m] wins.

[name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] is a million times more unexpected and interesting! I love the double R spelling too – it gives me rugged, roguish vibes.

I second everything above! I would add that, although [name_m]Austin[/name_m] might be more “stereotypical cool guy”, it’s perhaps starting to feel a bit dated now and [name_m]Finn[/name_m] is a more contemporary option with the same vibe. [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] could obviously shorten to [name_m]Finn[/name_m] – or (and I know one with this shortening, which I think is very cool) [name_m]Barr[/name_m]

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m]! Totally agree with the above that [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] is much more unexpected.

[name_m]Austin[/name_m] fits a teenage-movie cool guy of the 90s and early 00s, but [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] is the cool guy of the future (and adulthood as well, I think).

Agree with everything stated by previous posters!

Depends what you mean by cool?

Cool as in on-trend and contemporary: [name_m]Austin[/name_m]

Cool as in distinctive and unexpected (but still familiar): [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m]

[name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] would probably be the “cooler” name, just because [name_m]Austin[/name_m] has been popular for so long that it seems (at least to me, a 20-something in the US) kind of boring and expected.
Also [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] has the nickname [name_m]Finn[/name_m], which I think is a really cool nickname :blue_heart:
