Hello- would love some criticisms of my final list. Or rather, I’d like to know which people’s favourites are of the names we have.
1- Preference for first name (b and g) irrespective of middle names
2- Preference for whole name (b and g)
I like [name]Thea[/name] and [name]Ivan[/name] with your other two children! I’m not a huge fan of [name]Barnaby[/name] or the nn [name]Barney[/name], and I just like the sound of [name]Thea[/name] more than [name]Iona[/name] w/ your family.
I think either of your middle names for [name]Thea[/name] would be fine, but I would love to put [name]Clover[/name] in with her name too!
I also prefer Thea Lucy Beatrix (both over Iona and the other combos).
I like Barnaby Ivan Augustus (or Barnaby Ivan Fisher) much better. I think Barnaby compliments Tobias and Mabel really well by tying in to their B sounds. (Ivan feels left out to me, lacking the B and being more Eastern European compared with British vintage solids like your other kids…but I like Barnaby better anyway). I don’t think you have to use Barney as a nn, though. I would probably go with Barnes, Arno, or Abe if you want a shorter version.
I like [name]Thea[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Barnaby[/name] [name]Ivan[/name] [name]Augustus[/name], both the full names and the first names!
I love [name]Thea[/name] and [name]Barnaby[/name] with [name]Tobias[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name].
I like [name]Thea[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Barnaby[/name] [name]Ivan[/name] [name]Augustus[/name]. Probably because I adore [name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Thea[/name] and strongly dislike [name]Iona[/name] (sorry). I also think [name]Barnaby[/name] is adorable, but remains a strong name at the same time. I think [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Holiday[/name] is good too, but my love for [name]Beatrix[/name] clouds it completely.
Cool names! Your children all have great names to be proud of. For you I like: [name]Iona[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Clover[/name] and [name]Barnaby[/name] [name]Ivan[/name] [name]Augustus[/name], but really you can’t go wrong. Congrats.
Thank you for the wash of positive, constructive comments.
We’ve been tossing about these names for so long now, and have finally reached some sort of consensus.
If my round tum pops out a boy, he will be [name]Barnaby[/name] [name]Ivan[/name] [name]Augustus[/name] ([name]Barnes[/name], loved that nickname, or even [name]Ives[/name] in homage to his middle name. We shall see) [name]Barnaby[/name] has been growing and growing on me, and I am able to see it on a man now as well as a boy, which is something I doubted in the past.
For a girl, we have decided upon [name]Thea[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]. I love all three names, and [name]Thea[/name] (though perhaps a less offbeat choice than [name]Mabel[/name]) is unusual but recogniseable. Most importantly, I love saying it aloud and it feels right.
Thank you all for your help and I will try to pop back and do a birth announcement at some point.
Hopefully I’ll linger around these forums again in the future. I’ve enjoyed dipping into other people’s naming journeys, too.
Wish me luck!
