Which name?

[name]Hi[/name]! I am new member.

I am adopting a girl in few months and we want to change her name. Her name is [name]Virtue[/name]. We have nothing against that name, we just want to name her ourselves. I know this makes biological parent-child union a bit difficult, but in her file we find out her parents are horrible (pedophile). So it’s better she or her parents have difficult time to find each other.

My husband loves: [name]Layla[/name], [name]Lyla[/name], [name]Elodie[/name], [name]June[/name], [name]Simone[/name], [name]Naomi[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Emily[/name], [name]Maris[/name], [name]Alena[/name], [name]Eva[/name] and [name]Maya[/name]. I like [name]Lyla[/name], [name]June[/name], [name]Maya[/name], [name]Naomi[/name], [name]Marion[/name], [name]Flora[/name], [name]Cecilia[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Julia[/name].

My top three are [name]Cecilia[/name], [name]Flora[/name], [name]Marion[/name], [name]Dahlia[/name] and [name]Julia[/name].
His top five are [name]Layla[/name], [name]Elodie[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Maris[/name] and [name]Alena[/name]. [name]Alena[/name] is pn Eh-leh-nuh.

We dislikle [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Erin[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Lilian[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Grace[/name], [name]Melody[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Mary[/name], [name]Jessica[/name], [name]Ella[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Freya[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name], althought we find [name]Eliza[/name] sweet name. We can’t use [name]Eliza[/name], that’s out niece.

[name]Pippa[/name], [name]Silvia[/name], [name]Ava[/name], [name]Megan[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Sierra[/name] are all ok, but there are not our favorites. I dislike nickname-names (I have nothing against short form which could stand on it’s own), husband love some of them.

We care little for popularity, but we would like something fresher or relatively rare.

What suggestion you have? We can’t have an agrement, we both want tu use out top five. Could you suggest new names, which are simmilar to our taste?

Edit: We both like Layla, June, Naomi, Lyla, Eva and Maya. Should we give up our favorites even if we don’t like them as our top choices?

[name]Lucy[/name]? That was the first to come to mind. Others (and sorry if you already mentioned them, I have a terrible memory):

[name]Cora[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Madeleine[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Esme[/name]

Congrats on adopting a child! I find it odd that her parents named her [name]Virtue[/name]…huh.

You have lovely names picked out! Any one of them would be great!

Suggestions:
[name]Eleni[/name] (prn. Eh-[name]LAY[/name]-knee) – Has a lovely meaning (and sound!) There is also a wonderful namesake – the movie [name]Eleni[/name] is a pretty sad true story about a Greek family during the civil war. The mother, named [name]Eleni[/name] has such a deep love for her children, she ends up dying because she planned an escape for her children. I know it sounds too tragic, but my favorite line from the movie is when she tells one of her children, “Being a mother is such a joy…and I thank God I have known it.” So, for me, that name carries the connotation of the joy of being a mother too.
[name]Althea[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Moriah[/name]
[name]Della[/name]

Congratulations on adopting a baby girl! That is soooo exciting!
Regarding your names; I would stay away from [name]Alena[/name]. Personally, I would not have pronounced it the way you’ve described, so unless you don’t mind correcting people all the time, I would choose something else. [name]Elena[/name] is the way I would spell the pronunciation mentioned above.
[name]Olivia[/name] is a little too popular in my mind, although you mentioned that doesn’t bother you. In fact, maybe it’s a good idea to give her a popular name. It would be harder to connect her with her past perhaps.

Names similar to:
[name]Maris[/name]: [name]Marina[/name], [name]Maren[/name], [name]Oceane[/name] (similar in meaning -although it only sounds really pretty to me when pronounced in French, in which case it has 3 syllables)
[name]Elodie[/name] (love this name by the way!): [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Louise[/name], [name]Amelie[/name] (since it’s a French name),
[name]Flora[/name] & [name]Dahlia[/name]: do you like nature names besides the usual [name]Lily[/name] & [name]Rose[/name]? There’s a blog on NB with many choices: Secret Nature Names Bring the Outside In | Nameberry and here Flower Names for Girls (and Boys) | Nameberry my favorites: [name]Dara[/name] (oak tree), [name]Lilou[/name] (form of [name]Lily[/name]), [name]Tamara[/name] or [name]Tamar[/name] (palm tree), [name]Delphine[/name], [name]Camillia[/name],

Enjoy these moments of antipating your new baby’s arrival!

I like some of the names you mentioned, especially [name]Dahlia[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], and [name]Emma[/name]. Some other names I like that might fit your style:

[name]Gemma[/name]
[name]Regan[/name] (pronounced [name]REE[/name]-gan)
[name]Emilia[/name] (pronounced like [name]Amelia[/name])
[name]Laine[/name]
[name]Reese[/name]
[name]Regis[/name]
[name]Sydney[/name]
[name]Morgan[/name]
[name]Reed[/name]
[name]Shelby[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]
[name]Kate[/name]
[name]Natalia[/name]

I like [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Esme[/name] (if pn ehs-meh, not sure how it’s pn), husband like [name]Clara[/name], but don’t want to let go [name]Layla[/name] and [name]Maris[/name]. Thanks for suggestion, but problem is that we can’t agree. I am not fan of [name]Layla[/name] or [name]Maris[/name], but he doesn’ want to settle for other names. [name]Nor[/name] do I. I was hoping we can find a name we are both fan of and that name is so good we left our ex favorite. Any advice?

Congratulations on adopting your little girl! You’re probably right that in this instance it is better for her to be given a different name! [name]How[/name] old is she? If she’s an older child rather than a baby you could ask her which name she likes?

I think I like [name]Olivia[/name] or [name]Cecilia[/name] best from your lists.

[name]Aurelia[/name] could work as you seem to like -ia endings?

[name]How[/name] old is she? Might be hard to transition to a completely new name if she’s over 2 or so.
What about something like [name]Verity[/name] or Verily?

Closer to your choices:

What about [name]Maren[/name]? - combo of [name]Maris[/name] and [name]Marion[/name] but still well known and pretty.
You both like [name]Naomi[/name], that’s very pretty!
Also, [name]Junia[/name] - you both like [name]June[/name] and you love [name]Julia[/name]

She is about 13 months old. I have another question, I will edited my message because I think hat would be better.

[name]Virtue[/name] is so pretty and beautiful!

I love kala_way’s suggestion of [name]Verity[/name], I think it would be a great choice!

Out of your choices I really like [name]Elodie[/name] and [name]Flora[/name]! I think they’re adorable

Some other suggestions:

Adelise -[name]ADD[/name] ah liese
[name]Madeleine[/name]/[name]Madeline[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]
[name]Desiree[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Blythe[/name]

Well, if you both don’t love one name then you’ll either have to find a compromise name, pick one you both like, or pick one that will not not be loved by one of you. Or I suppose, keep looking, though you can’t look forever.

[name]How[/name] about you each get to select a name. Maybe you can have the first name and he can have the mn or vice versa.

Some suggestions with your choices in mind…
[name]Marion[/name] [name]Alena[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name] [name]Alena[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Julia[/name]

I love the suggestion of [name]Verity[/name] - similar to her own name, but way nicer, [name]IMO[/name].

[name]Just[/name] wanted to say CONGRATS on the adoption! We are adoptive parents to be as well!

Congratulations! I find it strange that her parents would name her [name]Virtue[/name]…
Anyway, I think you might like these suggestions:

[name]Bridget[/name]
[name]Camille[/name]/[name]Camilla[/name]

[name]Tanya[/name]

[name]Love[/name] suggestion of [name]Camille[/name], but we already decided to name her [name]Julia[/name] [name]Elodie[/name]. Thanks for suggestion, warm comments and help.
