Which names grew on you?

Are there are any names that you used to hate or dislike that over time, you’ve come around to and perhaps even enjoy?

I’d say the first one that pops into my head is the name [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]. I loathed this name for the LONGEST. I just hated every single sound in it. But after many years, I actually don’t mind the name at all. It’s definitely grown on me to the point where I think it sounds pretty.

I think one of the biggest “helpers” in coming around to a name for me is meeting someone with that name. A lot of the times, a name is just an abstract concept but when attached to an actual human being I can grow to appreciate it a lot more.

i’ve definitely had names which i initially disliked, but grew on me after a while. For example [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f]/[name_f]Marie[/name_f]/[name_f]Maria[/name_f], [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].

[name_f]Mariah[/name_f] is one, it used to remind me too much of [name_f]Maria[/name_f] which is very popular where I live, but I find it beautiful now.
That aside, I used to dislike most of the names that are now in my signature! My style has changed a lot, since not too long ago I was in love with uncommon, foreign names that most people have never heard of.
I still like those names, but I prefer names that are uncommon and classic now.

I used to hate all of this names so much! I don’t even understand why I hated them, since they are just gorgeous!
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Delta[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f]

  • [name_u]Alfie[/name_u], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]

[name_f]Kaia[/name_f] - it sounded weird and clunky to me at first, now it’s one of my favourites
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] - another one that I thought sounded strange but now I think the sound is beautiful
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] - one that’s just starting to grow on me

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. As a kid I hated it, I couldn’t understand why anyone would name their child it, and I wouldn’t say it’s a favourite now but I do like it.

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] and [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] are the two that pop into my mind immediately. [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] I thought was a little strange, and I wasn’t a fan, but after reading “The Hiding Place” years ago it became one of my favorites. [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is one that I saw one day and suddenly loved, even though I had disliked it before. Now these two are among my top names!

[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]! I used to think this was such an ugly name, but it really grew on me! It also helped that I learned different pronunciations for it.

[name_u]Juniper[/name_u], from the [name_u]Sage[/name_u] ( someone was searching for a sibling name for [name_u]Everly[/name_u]). Before, I thought [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] was weird; now I think it sounds cute!

[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]. While it doesn’t sound pretty, I am a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fan, and it goes well with a middle name I have chosen for it: [name_f]Prudence[/name_f].

[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] is another! Used to think it was ugly, but it has grown on me. I am drawn to P- names (my NN is [name_f]Peggy[/name_f]) and I like the meaning, and how it’s old-fashioned.

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], which I feel is spunky and fun, but [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] was such an old lady name to me. Now I won’t say I love [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but I do like her a lot more than I did previously. ([name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is still better, though!)

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - Used to not be a fan of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] for some reason. I think mainly because of the nickname [name_f]Nora[/name_f]? Now I love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] to the point that I’m annoyed DH wouldn’t even consider it because we have a niece named [name_f]Elena[/name_f]. ([name_f]Nora[/name_f]'s grown a little on me, too.)

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - I always felt [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] was kinda clunky. In fact, I still kinda do, but now she’s more clunky pretty than clunky ugly, if that makes sense. I do prefer the less common [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] spelling, though.

Those are the ones off the top of my head.

[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]! I used to think it was way too old-fashioned and clunky, now I think it’s just fabulous. I love the name of [name_m]Paul[/name_m] Bettany and [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] [name_u]Connelly[/name_u]’s daughter, [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f].

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] - I used to think it was too posh and fancy for me but now I absolutely love it. I think the nickname [name_f]Cora[/name_f] helped me love it.

[name_f]Vienna[/name_f]. I used to hate the sound of the V and the N’s in the same name, but it grew on me and I love it now. And [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] - I guess it just wasn’t my thing before, I used to think of it as a mix of [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and lemonade, but I really like it now.

[name_f]Claudia[/name_f], [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f] (in progress), [name_f]Olive[/name_f] (in progress)

[name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Odette[/name_f], [name_f]Aviana[/name_f], [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] ([name_f]Coco[/name_f] [name_f]Chanel[/name_f] associations helped), [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] / [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f], [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f], [name_f]Marie[/name_f] (as a FN), [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Louis[/name_m] (lou-ee), & [name_u]Remy[/name_u]

[name_f]Hermine[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_f]Gaia[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_f]Wilma[/name_f], [name_m]Perseus[/name_m], [name_u]Percy[/name_u]

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] are the first two I can think of. I also used to hate [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], I can’t say I love it, but I can definitely see the appeal now.

[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is currently growing on me… it is still such an old lady name but has many cute and usable nn

I used to hate [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] because it reminded me of my ex’s little brother who I didn’t get along with. It’s now on my short list because of more exposure to it.

[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
