Which of these A names is best?

Hello everyone, already did a post like this a few days ago on the names that begin with M that I like the best & wanted to narrow down what I might use on a child seeing as the girl names that start with A S, M, L, V, and Z are generally what grab my attention and keep it. So, I guess a comment on what I should keep and what I should lose would be very beneficial for me to read and I trust all of the people on this website to have great taste.

[name_f]Anthea[/name_f] (ann-THEE-uh) - I love the exotic singing quality this name has:) I believe it’s Greek in origin and I think it sits right on the fence of being recognizable as well as easily fitting into the modern world as well as the “old fashioned” time period yet also a name that would make you (or at least me) look twice since it’s unexpected & delicate and daintily pretty which gives me southern belle vibes. The nickname if I use this name one day would be sweet Anthy.

[name_f]Arabela[/name_f] (air-a-BELL-uh) - this is honestly probably the most “mainstream” of the A names that I like right now. It’s a bit of a medieval name dating all the way back to 1135, anything before that being not a personal name and very ancient in comparison. The nickname for [name_f]Arabela[/name_f] would absolutely be light and breezy, almost carefree … [name_u]Ara[/name_u].

[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] - this is such a girl power name if there ever was one!! And I love everything there is to it from the sound, to the visuals, to the ancient Greek mythology it was born into.

[name_f]Apolline[/name_f] (app-uh-LEEN) - another nod to the world of Greek myth with this one being a female form of the sunny and attractive male name ~ [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]. I think also this is one of those names that is plenty ssatisfactory all its own with no names “for short.”

[name_f]Aline[/name_f] (uh-LEEN) - [name_f]Aline[/name_f] is so short & simple & to the point that I’m always slightly sad I don’t see the name used more often but also glad as that adds mystique to it in my opinion. The nickname I would go with is [name_f]Line[/name_f] (LEEN).

[name_f]Adelina[/name_f] (add-uh-LEE-nah) - now here is one that is a part of my Romanian side of the family tree. It’s perfect because I have a bit of a “love/hate” thing going with the similar name [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] so [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] is more of a breath of uncommon fresh air to me. A nickname I’d be inclined to use would be [name_f]Lina[/name_f].

[name_f]Annora[/name_f] (uh-NOOR-uh) - I find this name charming and unique, and like [name_f]Arabela[/name_f], also a name with a long history extending into the middle ages. I first became attracted to it due to it being an unheard of elaboration of [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. Nicknames made easy with this one too, the most obvious being [name_f]Nora[/name_f] / [name_f]Noora[/name_f] but it also gives the chance to go with [name_u]Noor[/name_u] which I personally like a lot better.

Atanasia (at-ah-NAHS-ee-uh) - a rare Romanian female given name

  • [name_f]Anthea[/name_f]: I love her, and would totally use it for my own daughter if she wasn’t too close to [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. It’s pretty and has that nature connection.

  • [name_u]Artemis[/name_u]: You seen to really love this name! It’s hard finding a name you love everything about, so I think you should keep this one.

  • [name_f]Aline[/name_f]: I’d hate for this name to go from your list; you introduced me to it! You should keep this one and I suppose it could also work as a substitute for [name_f]Adelina[/name_f].

  • [name_f]Adelina[/name_f]: [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] are the highlights of my own list, so I understand the appeal of this name. You have familial connections with it, so why not? You could also nickname her [name_f]Aline[/name_f].

  • Atanasia: I love this one, but ultimately it would be thought of as [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]. Would you mind me asking what this means? It’s a beautiful name for sure.

[name_f]Adelina[/name_f] is my personal favourite - elegant, sweet and bright!

For you, however, I think I like [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] best - sharp but pretty and has plenty of flair!

I like [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] and [name_f]Apolline[/name_f] best! I would skip [name_f]Arabela[/name_f], [name_f]Aline[/name_f] and Atanasia.

I really like all of them! I think [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] and [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] are my top faves but [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] is a very close second.

° wow I didn’t realize I introduced you to the name [name_f]Aline[/name_f] but this makes me feel good for sure!!
° I see what you are saying about [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] and now that you’ve pointed it out it’s true that I could just as easily make [name_f]Aline[/name_f] into her nickname as I could [name_f]Lina[/name_f]
° ok so Atanasia: this is a mainly Spanish and Romanian (though rare) girl name derived from the ancient Greek girl name [name_f]Athanasia[/name_f] which is actually originally a male name [name_m]Athanasios[/name_m] and this means “immortal”.

I absolutely love [name_u]Artemis[/name_u]! [name_f]Annora[/name_f], [name_f]Adelina[/name_f], and [name_f]Aline[/name_f] are lovely too.

I’d drop Atanasia, I think it’s bound to be confused with [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f].

These are all really nice! Here are some of my opinions:

[name_f]Anthea[/name_f] - I really like this name and it sounds very distinct and quite pretty without being overly feminine and princessy. It’s a little old-fashioned and not one of the names experiencing a resurgence, but also old-fashioned names are in vogue at the moment so it’s not weird. [name_f]My[/name_f] only hesitation with [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] is it sounds just slightly medical to me… like anthrax? I think that’s why I prefer the similar Althea; however, I don’t feel the same about [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] so who knows? lol

[name_f]Arabela[/name_f] - LOVE this spelling! I can’t describe why, because [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is nice too, but this spelling just has this sleek look and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is a little too frilly for me but dropping that one L makes a lot of difference. I went to school with an [name_u]Ara[/name_u] (just Ara) and it makes a lovely name/nickname as well.

[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] - It’s not really my style but I agree with you that it is a very powerful and just plain cool name.

[name_f]Apolline[/name_f] - This name is so chic and vogue. [name_f]Apolline[/name_f] is that girl that everyone aspires to be. Personally the first two syllables are a little too close to “apple” for me but I definitely see the appeal.

[name_f]Aline[/name_f] - I have this name on my list and I absolutely love it. It’s definitely my favorite on your list. I completely agree with you that it’s simple but sleek and has a really nice mystique to it (great way to put it!). I prefer it to [name_f]Apolline[/name_f] because it skirts the “apple” issue for me lol. I think this name is super underrated and has this fabulous [name_u]French[/name_u] flair that is just chef’s kiss

[name_f]Adelina[/name_f] - so cute. [name_f]My[/name_f] old boss’ kid’s name and it fits her to a T. Everyone always compliments him on her name. It fits in with the popular names of today but stands out as quite memorable on its own. It does lean a little princessy for my own tastes but definitely a very nice and versatile choice.

[name_f]Annora[/name_f] - I feel like I’ve said this about all of these names lol but another really nice and underrated choice. It feels like a regal and commanding but down-to-earth choice and I do much prefer it to [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. It just has that extra oomph of something special.

Atanasia - this one is quite nice; I think I slightly prefer the spelling [name_f]Athanasia[/name_f] though but that’s just personal preference. I think the drawback here is that it’s the most unfamiliar one on this list in an Anglophone country. It has a very pretty sound though.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is definitely ALINE, with [name_f]Arabela[/name_f] in second.

[name_f]My[/name_f] three favorites:

  1. [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] (Unique and beautiful!! Anthy is also so cute, as well as Thea!!)

  2. [name_f]Annora[/name_f] (So lovely and intuitive!! I also love [name_f]Annie[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] as nickname options!)

  3. [name_f]Apolline[/name_f] (I know you said this name was satisfactory, but a little [name_f]Pollie[/name_f] would be so sweet! It’s such a beautiful long form as well)
