ETA: Whoops, I didn’t see the poll when I typed this up. [name_f]My[/name_f] top five from the poll are [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u], and [name_m]Atlas[/name_m].

[name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_m]Dov[/name_m], [name_m]Julian[/name_m] [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_u]Reeve[/name_u], [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] [name_u]Wallace[/name_u], and [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] Wilde are fantastic. Your others are nice, but they all seem to be lacking something.

[name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_m]Adler[/name_m] - I love [name_m]Simon[/name_m] and like [name_m]Adler[/name_m], but together it falls flat with me. Mixing up the syllable count would help, I think. [name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]? [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] [name_m]Adler[/name_m]? Something like that.

[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] - [name_m]Both[/name_m] of these names are really fun on their own, but together it reminds me more of a character in a children’s show. Something like [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] [name_m]Hale[/name_m] or [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] would be my preference.

[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] - This one just isn’t my style, but I do appreciate your reasons for wanting to use [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u].

[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] - I’ve been on Nameberry too long, because this one is almost boring to me. I love [name_m]Jack[/name_m] in the middle spot, but I would use another middle name for [name_u]August[/name_u].

[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Hale[/name_m] - I normally don’t think of Twilight when I hear [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], but this is the first and last name of one of the characters. I don’t think that’s general knowledge though, so I’m sure you could get away with it. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Hale[/name_m] does have a distinguished Revolutionary War era-ish feel to it.

[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] - Again, just not my style. I don’t “get” [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m].

@southern.maple: Ack, I had no idea that [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Hale[/name_m] was a Twilight character! Much as I hope those books will be a flash in the pop culture pan, I definitely don’t want people to think I’m a fan of the series. Definitely changing that combo - thanks for the heads up!

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_m]Atlas[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] & [name_u]August[/name_u]

[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] & [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] & [name_u]August[/name_u] & [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] & [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] & [name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_u]August[/name_u]

[name_m]Judah[/name_m] is extremely biblical to me, I cannot find a name from your boys list I like with it.

I looked at your signature and was wondering if [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Hale[/name_m] has a personal meaning for you? Since it’s the exact name of the Twilight character.

I voted [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] but if Twilight rules that out I think [name_m]Simon[/name_m] would be wonderfully fresh on a baby.

[name_f]My[/name_f] personal favorites are [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] (for a middle name), and [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] but prefer [name_u]Finley[/name_u] or [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. The only one I would remove is [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]. I like [name_f]Marlo[/name_f], this spelling for a girl.

some sibling sets I like -

[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Judah[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m]
[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] and [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]

Top Five

1 [name_m]Jack[/name_m]
2 [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
3 [name_u]August[/name_u]
4 [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]
5 [name_m]Simon[/name_m]

[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u], [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] and [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] would make wonderful mn’s. I prefer [name_u]Jude[/name_u] to [name_m]Judah[/name_m] and [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] is a book I look at when I want to know where a country is located. Yeah, I know about the myth but it’s more of word than a myth for me.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], and [name_m]Simon[/name_m], all classic and recognizable names, but not super popular (that I know of). [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is probably my favourite. I’d have it on my list in a heartbeat, but my husband loves [name_m]Paul[/name_m] and I can’t use [name_m]Paul[/name_m] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m] together, lest people think we’re some kind of super-fans.

Least favourites are [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m], because it was a puppet on one of my favourite TV shows as a child, and I can’t get past that reference, [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] as a first because it’s so surname-y, and [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], because it seems a bit hipster to me. Honestly though, I think all your names are good and useable.

@southern.maple: Thanks again for alerting me to the [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Hale[/name_m]/Twilight connection. You’ve given me some excellent food for thought here. You’re right about [name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_m]Adler[/name_m] - I think they’re too symmetrical. [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] [name_m]Adler[/name_m] is a great suggestion. Ditto [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. I think the problem with [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] is the ‘O’ sound in each name - you’re right, it sounds character-y. And you could’ve read my mind about [name_u]August[/name_u]. I do really like this name, but it doesn’t sing to me like [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m] do. Possibly that’s down to Nameberry overexposure.

@opheliaflora: I had no idea that [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Hale[/name_m] was a Twilight character, and I’ll definitely be changing that combo. I really liked the sibsets you suggested, especially [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] & [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_m]Atlas[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m] & [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. I hadn’t realized what a truly versatile name [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is - it pairs as well with [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] as with [name_m]Simon[/name_m]. Thanks!

@norbury: I am not a Twilight fan (understatement), but I don’t think it’s “ruined” any names. Honestly, I can’t see it being much read after a few years, so I don’t think naming a kid [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] - or [name_f]Esme[/name_f], or [name_m]Edward[/name_m], or [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] - will be an issue. I also love [name_m]Simon[/name_m]! Hm - how about [name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]?

@lovemysweeties: I also love [name_f]Marlo[/name_f] for a girl, but I see [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] as a totally different, and inherently masculine, name - kind of like [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] vs. [name_u]Jessie[/name_u]. I really like the idea of [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] as a middle name, especially when paired with [name_m]Simon[/name_m]. Thanks for these sibset suggestions! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m].

@mischa: Is it weird that I kind of like the fact that [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] is also so strongly associated with books of maps? I totally get not liking to name on that basis, but for me it’s a perk. :stuck_out_tongue: I also love [name_u]Jude[/name_u], and if I had a [name_m]Judah[/name_m] I would definitely call him [name_u]Jude[/name_u] most of the time. [name_m]Judah[/name_m] would be the formal/birth-certificate name. I probably should have mentioned that on the poll! I actually hadn’t considered [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u], [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u], and [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] as mns, but you’re totally right - they’d work fabulously. [name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]…great suggestion!

@maggiefromcanada: I also really like that [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], and [name_m]Simon[/name_m] are recognizable but underused classics. [name_m]Simon[/name_m] is wonderful, isn’t he? I had to laugh when I saw your comment about [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] being hipster - you’re right, and I think that’s why I love it. [name_f]My[/name_f] name taste definitely falls into the ‘hipster’ category, though as a tattooed 20-something [name_m]New[/name_m] Yorker, I think that’s unavoidable.

I like [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Hale[/name_m], [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] Wilde, [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] [name_m]Fox[/name_m] and [name_m]Julian[/name_m] [name_u]River[/name_u]
