We prefer uncommon but traditional/old-fashioned names. I like for there to be a good nn if possible too. Daughter’s name is [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and we love it. We’re having a little trouble committing to a first name for our son on the way. Our top 3 boy names right now are (in no particular order):
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Roland[/name_m]
He will have 2 middle names (long story) one of which will be [name_u]James[/name_u] and the other will be either [name_u]Gray[/name_u] or [name_u]Asa[/name_u]. Order not set. I would love to hear not only your favorites, but any impressions you have of these names. Thanks!
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is a beautiful name!
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] feels modern/trendy to me instead of traditional and old-fashioned, because of the -er ending.
It’s hard to choce beteen [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] and [name_m]Roland[/name_m], though I think I’d go with [name_m]Roland[/name_m] since nickname [name_u]Toby[/name_u] doesn’t make me think old-fashioned at all, whereas [name_m]Roland[/name_m]'s nicknames ([name_m]Rollie[/name_m], [name_m]Land[/name_m], [name_f]Roe[/name_f]) do.
By the way, I like both [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] and [name_m]Roland[/name_m] a lot!
Are you looking for suggestions, or are you decided on those three names?
Edit:
Forgot to say that I really like the sound of Roland Asa James
Anothe reason why I prefer Roland over Tobias is that TobiaS JameS ASa has too many sharp sounds (you could go with Grey, but Tobias James still doesn’t sound as good as Roland James)
I like both [name_m]Roland[/name_m] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] a lot. With your chosen middle names, I think [name_m]Roland[/name_m] would work best.
I would go with either [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] or [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], they compliment [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] really well.
[name_m]Roland[/name_m] [name_u]Asa[/name_u] [name_u]Gray[/name_u] or [name_m]Roland[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Gray[/name_u] would make a great sibset with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f].
Thanks for the input! [name_m]Just[/name_m] thought I’d come back and add a few comments to add some insight into our reasoning and style.
There is a tradition in DH’s family that all boys have a J middle name (last name is a J also.) I am not a big fan but it is a pretty long standing tradition so my compromise was 2 middles.
[name_u]James[/name_u] is FIL’s middle name. My father is [name_u]Asa[/name_u] [name_u]Gray[/name_u]. My maiden name, [name_u]Gray[/name_u], will not be carried on as niether brother has a son.
If this baby had been a girl, she was probably going to be Lila Gray (double name) w/mn Felicity, Verity or Elise.
Other names we considered were
Bastion ([name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] is so similar and has become way too popular.)
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] (I love it but DH doesn’t.)
I think I mostly like [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] for the nn [name_m]Fletch[/name_m]. [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] was the first baby name we agreed on when we were dating.
We were originally considering [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] but it’s also getting trendier, so we thought [name_m]Roland[/name_m] was a great alternative.
We like old-fashioned but it’s not a rule. More just that we want a “real” name that wasn’t invented in the past 30 years. Like we would always choose [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] over [name_u]Jayden[/name_u].
If you have suggestions feel free to throw them out there, although weve done a lot of looking and narrowing down at this point.
I like [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]
