Which Of These Works With My Style?

I’m between a few names right now for the final 2 spots on my shortlist (I really hate being so nitpicky with myself, but ugh I can’t help it), and I’m not sure which I like more.

So far, the other 33 names are;

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f],
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Hettie[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f],
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Maude[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f],
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f],
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Bridget[/name_f],
[name_f]Rosetta[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f],
[name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f],
[name_f]Viola[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], & [name_f]Agnes[/name_f].

The ones I’m between are;

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f]*
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]*
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]*
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]*
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]*
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] (or [name_f]Etta[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f]

*For the most part, I like the long names to stay as they are, and not be shortened. If I have an [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], I want to call them [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]. If I want a [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]/[name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]/[name_f]Lola[/name_f], or [name_f]Annie[/name_f]/[name_f]Belle[/name_f], then I would use [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f] or [name_f]Belle[/name_f] as straight up names. Of course there are exceptions, haha, but generally, that is how I see it.

Which two names would you add to my list?

Well, my personal vote would go to [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] since they’re two of my favourite names.

From that list I could best see you with an [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f], or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] though. Prim, cute but spunky, with a “British” feel.

I really like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] style is quite similar to yours, I suppose, so it’s hard to pick!

@bonfireazalea - i want to love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] but I think I prefer [name_f]Cora[/name_f], haha I’m so indecisive! I’m thinking [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] as well, but perhaps I should extend to a top 40  haha

@handsallover - yay, someone who likes [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]! Haha, I live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] so the whole racism point doesnt really fit here, [name_f]Canada[/name_f] never had slavery (in fact, slaves came here to be free).

@[name_u]Haley[/name_u]- About the [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] “issue”- I asked several of my real-life friends what they think of [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] and none of them had any idea of the racism connotations. [name_m]Even[/name_m] after I told them some people think it’s racist, they didn’t see why. So I do think it’s usable here (I don’t like it enough to use, but I probably would if I did).

@bonfireazalea - i told my mum and dad about it, my dad said the only thing he can see being racist is the character of Aunt [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], not the name. Plus, there was a Welsh (i believe) heroine with the name.

Ones I’m now seriously considering: [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]/[name_f]Annie[/name_f] and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f].

It’s a process of elimination for me:

  1. You already have an [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] on your “Top 33 Name List” so I don’t think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] should be added.
  2. You have a [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] so no more “ay” sounds (bye bye [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]).
  3. You have numerous names ending in an “ee” sound ([name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_f]Hettie[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]) so any similar name should be crossed off (so long [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f] and [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]).
  4. You have three names with a pronounced “or” sound on your list ([name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]) so I would say goodbye to [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f].
  5. You have 3 names that share the initial “L” so [name_f]Lola[/name_f] is toast (it’s a different style anyway so no big deal)
  6. You have a [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosetta[/name_f], so you don’t need to add [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] or [name_f]Etta[/name_f] ([name_f]Etta[/name_f] can be the nn of [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosetta[/name_f])

There are five names left on your “to add list” (see below):

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] - you have [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] so she has to be given a pass (sniff)
[name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] - I prefer the Scottish [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] spelling. This polished spelling is more British than [name_m]French[/name_m] so it’s a good “match” with the “Top 33”. I think your list is lacking a “bel” name so this is my first choice to add to your list.
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f] - you have two place names already ([name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]) so I would ditch [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] as much as a I like the name.
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] - ok but a little too Continental with your “Top 33”
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f] - This name is quite lovely and rolls off the tongue. It’s more common in [name_m]Britain[/name_m] so I think it’s a great “fit” with your other names.

So, in summary, I would add [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] (this spelling) and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] to your list to make 35.

I like most of your favorites as always, so it’s hard to choose! I think I’d add [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f].
