As an American, I had no clue how to prn [name_m]Huon[/name_m]. I was saying Hwahn. I do like the sound of [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] uhn. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it if prn isn’t an issue where you live. Not a fan if Hollister.
I voted for [name_m]Huon[/name_m]. Hollister just reminds me of the overpriced, foul-smelling store.
Definitely [name_m]Huon[/name_m] over Hollister. Hollister reminds me of the (selectively staffed, over priced, dark, cramped, claustrophobic) shop too. [name_m]Huon[/name_m] might have some pronunciation difficulties (I thought it was said like Hwan) but they probably wouldn’t be too hard to rectify.
I love [name_m]Huon[/name_m] and have considered it before since I’m originally from Tassie where those trees are quite common! I’ve ended up loving [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] more though, I think. They sound so similar and [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] goes better with my list.
But yeah, go for [name_m]Huon[/name_m], a very handsome name. I don’t think prn. will be an issue if he grows up in Aus
Coming from Tassie, I think [name_m]Huon[/name_m] is a fabulous name and I don’t think prn would be an issue is Australia! I actually really like this! In fact I’m a little jealous I didn’t come up with the idea first!
I’m from [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and I’ve never seen or heard of the huon tree. I also didn’t know how to pronounce [name_m]Huon[/name_m] upon looking at it. Is the “on” at the end really stretched out, or is it like [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] but starting with an H? (From your description I’m thinking it’s the latter.) Either way I’m intrigued, and either way I think it’s better than Hollister, which here is a really popular clothing manufacturer with (as people have already said) awful-smelling stores.
I love the sound of [name_m]Huon[/name_m], but on paper I would have (ignorantly) guessed that it was southeast [name_f]Asian[/name_f] or something and pronounced something like ‘hwahn’. I’m with @boyandgirl that if pronunciation is not an issue where you live, I would choose this over Hollister.
My obgyn is [name_m]Huon[/name_m]! Like it much better than Hollister.
Oh, you know, I think I loosely knew the Hollister stores existed but I’ve never been in there and I certainly wasn’t naming FOR them. I’m more of a vintage/thrift store person, lol.
I love nature names and there’s so few for boys.
oregano7, [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] with an H is a good way to say it, cleverer than what I posted!
I did want an H name for family reasons. I like [name_m]Heath[/name_m] but my husband doesn’t. I dislike [name_u]Hayden[/name_u], [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], and [name_m]Harry[/name_m]. [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] I love but husband vetoed it and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. Neither of us feel great about [name_u]Hunter[/name_u].
[name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] is a suburb of [name_m]Melbourne[/name_m] and for us that’s not a total deal-breaker but it’s odd and people will think we’re Hawks fans! And hawthorn trees aren’t Aussie and huons are. Hawthorns are tough trees though - and [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] makes a cool NN, but overall it got got bumped to 3rd place I think.
I voted Hollister, just because I don’t like how [name_m]Huon[/name_m] looks written out. Have you considered [name_u]Hollis[/name_u]?
What about the more streamlined [name_u]Hollis[/name_u]? I’ve always been a fan of this name.
I thought [name_m]Huon[/name_m] was like [name_m]Juan[/name_m] with an H. I’m from [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u]. I much prefer [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] or [name_m]Hugo[/name_m].
Hollister I really think is borderline unusable in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u] - it’s such a popular tweeny bopper retail store in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u] and you’ll probably get that comment from any Canadian or American who hears it. It would be like someone naming their son Abercrombie.
If you are from Australia and don’t ever go to [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u] then it would be ok …unless that store migrates over there lol.
Other H suggestions: [name_m]Harold[/name_m] (can shorten to [name_m]Hank[/name_m] or [name_u]Harley[/name_u] but I think it’s quite dapper and should be revived), [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], [name_m]Harris[/name_m], [name_u]Hartley[/name_u], [name_u]Howard[/name_u], [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m].
I wish I could buy [name_m]Harold[/name_m] or [name_m]Harald[/name_m] but I don’t think I can deal with it. [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] was a retro stretch itself.
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] feels too soft without another sound to ‘finish it off’? Or I’m crazy.
[name_m]Harris[/name_m] is close to [name_m]Harry[/name_m] and [name_m]Harry[/name_m] is nauseating really for reasons that I can’t blame on the name but can’t help. [name_m]Harris[/name_m] is better but I dunno.
[name_u]Hartley[/name_u] like [name_m]Harlan[/name_m] I can’t decide if I like or not.
Can’t do [name_u]Howard[/name_u].
[name_m]Hamilton[/name_m]? No. Maybe [name_m]Hamish[/name_m], but it’s on my sister’s MN list and she might stab me. lol
I do love [name_m]Hank[/name_m], but my husband hates it and says it’s ‘soooo American.’
And I like [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] but, uh, I don’t know how it’d go over out here and my husband thinks I’m insane when I mention it, despite it being a family name for me.
