Which "old man" name?

Which of these names do you think would fit in better for a possible brother of [name_f]Pet[/name_f]*r and Sab!na? We seem to love the very rusty old man names and think that our style fits in with that of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]'s characters. What do you think? We really need help deciding and shortening our list!

1.[name_m]Harold[/name_m]
2. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
3. [name_m]Albert[/name_m]
4. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
5. [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
6. [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]
7. [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
8. [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
9. [name_m]Louis[/name_m]

The only names on this list that I might consider an old man name is [name_m]Harold[/name_m] and [name_m]Albert[/name_m].

[name_f]Pet[/name_f]*r, Sab!na, and:

[name_m]Harold[/name_m]
[name_m]Albert[/name_m]
[name_m]Anthony[/name_m]

My favourite is [name_m]Albert[/name_m], so perfect with the sibset! [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] would be my second choice, then [name_m]Louis[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] too but it seems to be getting popular. [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] feels more trendy and modern rather than ‘old man’ to me and I would say [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is quite trendy too. [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] are more timeless than old fashioned and seem a bit normal for what you’re after. I’m not a fan of [name_m]Harold[/name_m], for me it’s just dated.

[name_m]Harold[/name_m] is my pick, for sure.

[name_m]Albert[/name_m] is perfect! I love [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] as well.

[name_m]Harold[/name_m] or [name_m]Albert[/name_m]…

I love classic vintage names!

  1. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - I just love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], it is at the top of my list.
  2. [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
  3. [name_m]Louis[/name_m]
  4. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
  5. [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
  6. [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]
  7. [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
  8. [name_m]Albert[/name_m] - I do like nn [name_m]Alby[/name_m] or [name_m]Albie[/name_m] quite a bit, but much prefer [name_m]Alban[/name_m] to [name_m]Albert[/name_m].
  9. [name_m]Harold[/name_m] - Not the biggest fan. I adore [name_m]Harry[/name_m], but not so much [name_m]Harold[/name_m].

[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_m]Albert[/name_m] I think work the best.

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] doesn’t really strike me as an old man name, and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is completely timeless.

[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
Are my favorites

I think I prefer [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] to [name_m]Albert[/name_m] and really like [name_u]Alfie[/name_u]. [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] too is handsome.

My top 5:

  1. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
  2. [name_m]Louis[/name_m]
  3. [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
  4. [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
  5. [name_m]Albert[/name_m]

With [name_m]Peter[/name_m] and [name_f]Sabina[/name_f], I like any of the following:

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Anthony[/name_m]
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]

Good luck!

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

The only “old man” names I see are [name_m]Harold[/name_m] and [name_m]Albert[/name_m]. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] are my top favorite with [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] close behind.

I love the other poster’s suggestion of [name_m]Alfred[/name_m]. None of them seem that old mannish to me, especially since [name_m]Albert[/name_m] is making a comeback and [name_m]Harold[/name_m] is the name of the four year old that lives next door to my husband and I. I love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] but it’s getting so popular. [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] brings me back to the 80s for some reason (I had a lot of [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]'s and [name_u]Tony[/name_u]'s in my elementary classes). So I would pick [name_m]Alfred[/name_m], then [name_m]Albert[/name_m].

[name_m]Joseph[/name_m], [name_m]Anthony[/name_m], and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] don’t really seem like “old man” names to me, because they are so widely used they don’t give me any one particular feeling. However, I think they do fit right in with Pet3r and Sab1na. I greatly prefer [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], and it would be my first choice of those you listed.

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] all feel very current and “on-trend.” I know they are not new or modern, but they definitely don’t give me an “old man” vibe, either. I would choose [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] of the three, as I think it sounds best with your other children.

[name_m]Harold[/name_m], [name_m]Albert[/name_m], and [name_m]Louis[/name_m] do give me the “old man” feeling. My favorite of the three is, by far, [name_m]Louis[/name_m], but I think [name_m]Harold[/name_m] could be good as well. I love the nicknames [name_m]Harry[/name_m], [name_u]Bert[/name_u], or [name_m]Louie[/name_m] for these names.

Neither [name_m]Peter[/name_m] nor [name_f]Sabina[/name_f] have an “old-man” (or lady) feel about them to me…the names that to me feel like they belong w/[name_m]Peter[/name_m] & [name_f]Sabina[/name_f] are [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] & [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. They sound like a set of British siblings from the first quarter of the 20th century.

Thank you all so much! You’ve been a huge help with narrowing down our list! Also, thanks for pointing out that our names are not as “old-man” or “old-lady” as we figured, it just feels that way because it’s how people in our family and social circle view our choices of names, including [name_u]Pat[/name_u] and [name_f]Sabina[/name_f]'s.

We’ve decided that we much prefer [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Albert[/name_m], [name_m]Harold[/name_m] and [name_m]Louis[/name_m] and that since [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] are family names we might use one or the other as a middle name. I lean more towards [name_m]Albert[/name_m], [name_m]Harold[/name_m] and [name_m]Louis[/name_m], while the husband is clearly more attached to [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. We’ll just have to go on debating…
