Which one of these names is your favorite?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], guys, I’m not having another baby anytime soon but I love to have new names on my list, so I would love to know what you guys think of these and which ones are your favorites. Also, if you’re feeling like it, would you mind describing what type of girl you picture when you hear the name? You could just do it with your favorite, but you don’t need to, that’s not the question here. lol The names are: [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Mattea[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. Also, can you guys think of a name that can have [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] as a nickname that’s not [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (and all the other spellings for the same name) even if it’s a stretch? I love [name_f]Cathy[/name_f], but i don’t know why i doesn’t feel like a name to me. Same happens with Beca/[name_f]Becca[/name_f], I love it but can’t stand [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], ugh.

Well I’m a sucker for most of these names, my baby is actually gonna be a [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] was a strong option too. So, if I have to pick, [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. As for [name_f]Cathy[/name_f], I can only think of [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Cathrine[/name_f], [name_f]Cathryn[/name_f], [name_f]Catalina[/name_f], and [name_f]Catarina[/name_f] to be honest. As for Beca and [name_f]Becca[/name_f], I honestly can’t think of anything but [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]. Now let me see what I can think of these names.

[name_f]Emily[/name_f]: [name_f]Kinda[/name_f] shy, but extremely sweet and does anything for the people she loves.
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]: Very witty and very funny, headstrong and a bit loud.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]: Extremely bubbly girl who loves singing and loves animals.
[name_f]Mattea[/name_f]: Makes me think of a quiet girl with big goals, and she works very hard to accomplish them.
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]: It makes me think of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in Wonderland, so reminds me of a curious and innocent girl.
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]: My mind goes straight to actress [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_m]Kendrick[/name_m]: Extremely funny and talkative, a bit sarcastic too.
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]: I love love love this sweet name, probably a girl who loves drawing and have a lot of friends.
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]: My all-time favourite, i think of [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] from the Pitch Perfect movies. Fun, friendly, bubbly, smart and organized.
[name_f]Maya[/name_f]: Energetic kid who can be very stubborn and is into science.
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]: Makes me think of a real live disney princess, kind, gentle and lovely.

That’s the image I have for the names. I actually love [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] as a name, never met anyone with any of the “full names” for [name_f]Cathy[/name_f], but my favourite character of my favourite musical is named [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] and I kinda love it a little too much. I love [name_f]Becca[/name_f] on its own, I like [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] to but is not one of my favourites.

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] is my favorite from your list. I also like [name_f]Maya[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] and [name_f]Becca[/name_f] can work on their own. But for [name_f]Cathy[/name_f], maybe you could use [name_f]Catalina[/name_f], [name_f]Cathleen[/name_f], or another [name_f]Cat[/name_f]- name as a full version. [name_f]Becca[/name_f] is a bit more difficult. It’d be a stretch, but maybe if you had a combo with a B name and [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] as the middle name, it could work. Or you could always just use [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] or [name_f]Becca[/name_f] in the middle spot if you don’t think they’re substantial enough to come first.

I love [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. They are beautiful names. I have a family friend whose name is [name_f]Katerina[/name_f] but she goes by [name_f]Cathy[/name_f], if that helps.

I love the name: [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]!

Thank you! Great choice for your baby’s name. haha! And congratulations!

I love [name_f]Cathy[/name_f], like, with all my heart, but I don’t know why it doesn’t feel like a full name for me. As for [name_f]Becca[/name_f], I love the sound of it so much, but [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] feels so heavy on my tongue, i don’t know. Thank you!

My favorites are [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. [name_f]Cathleen[/name_f] works for [name_f]Cathy[/name_f].

You can just use the full name [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] if you like. I know a [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] who’s just named [name_f]Kathy[/name_f]!

What about [name_f]Catharine[/name_f]? The “a” makes a difference to me. I also love the name [name_f]Catharina[/name_f] (rhymes with ballerina).

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - studious, sometimes a little shy and sometimes a little haughty. Smooth, pale skin, slight frame.
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - bright, starry-eyed, talks a lot to her friends but only has a select few. round eyes, thick hair.
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] - all-American, popular, probably grows up to be a teacher
[name_f]Mattea[/name_f] - dark-haired, sophisticated, gentle but firm
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] - conservative, reserved, may become a tomboy and like sports like rugby but also may like crafting and knitting and cats?
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] - Eastern-European, quiet, blends in, light brown hair same colour as skin, hazel eyes, academically driven despite being of average intelligent
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] - lovable, full of life, curly hair, pretty
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] - very sweet, well-liked, confident, looks elfin
[name_f]Maya[/name_f] - just a typical girl, enjoying her life, nothing stands out, has lots of good friends
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] - careful, mature, straight hair, beautiful eyes

I like [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] and [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] best

(I dislike [name_f]Maya[/name_f])

[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - Honestly not a big fan of this, I would go for something a little more creative like [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]. I picture an artistic blonde girl with blue eyes that likes the sea and is quite friendly
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - Old lady name to me but I do appreciate the [name_m]Roald[/name_m] Dahl association and the nickname [name_u]Mattie[/name_u] which I love. I imagine a girl with long brown hair, glasses, that is shy but brave and fun around friends
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]- I love this name, it sounds classy but not old fashioned. I imagine another brunette, spunky and kind of tomboy-ish but kind and polite
[name_f]Mattea[/name_f] - I love [name_m]Mattias[/name_m] on a boy and as I said I love the nickname [name_u]Mattie[/name_u] so this is cute! I imagine a girl with a big smile and curly hair, with a good sense of humor
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] - Kind of old fashioned, I prefer names like [name_f]Ailis[/name_f] (ay-lish) but its sweet. When it comes to looks I imagine [name_f]Alice[/name_f] from [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in wonderland, and as for personality I think of a quiet bookworm that is still friendly though
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] - This is a sweet and adorable name but I dislike how popular it is. I imagine a sweet, simple (in a good way!) kind girl that loves animals
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] - Dislike, it’s popular and sounds like the typical “annoying popular girl you all hated in high school” kind of name
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] - Same as [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] but this one’s sweeter, I could see her as a likable and dorky person
[name_f]Maya[/name_f] - I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it if its pronounced Mah-ja (as in the german ja (yes) ) I imagine a darling little girl, that is sweet, loving kind, would make a lovely mother and that everyone likes
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]- Another name I really like, seems like a classy and sophisticated brunette that loves music and cares a lot about her friends

My favorites would be [name_f]Maya[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f]

I especially like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] from your list. All feel like the names of strong, confident, accomplished girls/women to me.

I actually love [name_f]Catharina[/name_f] to be honest! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Thank you so much!

Thank you! And I know, right? I love when a name is both feminine and strong, it justs owns my little hart. I also love [name_f]Davina[/name_f] and [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f], I think they fit in this category, but I don’t love them that much to be considered.

For the nn [name_f]Cathy[/name_f], I think the most obvious route is to go for a different version of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] - [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], [name_f]Catriona[/name_f], or [name_f]Karina[/name_f], for instance.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] in case you haven’t already checked, here are some more versions:

But if you’re sure you don’t like any, you could try a name ending in a “-ka” sound, followed by a middle starting with a soft “th”
eg.
[name_f]Angelica[/name_f], [name_f]Anka[/name_f], [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_f]Bianca[/name_f], [name_f]Elka[/name_f]/[name_f]Ilka[/name_f], [name_f]Frederica[/name_f], [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_u]Mika[/name_u], [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] (or…[name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] ) , followed by a name like
[name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Thelma[/name_f], [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], [name_f]Theda[/name_f]/[name_f]Thera[/name_f], [name_f]Thora[/name_f].

If you don’t like the repetition of the “a” ending, there‘s [name_f]Thais[/name_f], [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f], [name_f]Themis[/name_f] and [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f]. Nameberry has them prounced with a “th” but I suspect they’re more usually (or traditionally) pronounced with a “T” sound like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] (especially outside the USA). [name_f]Thalia[/name_f]'s another in that category. But if you prefer the “th” pronunciation, they could work.

I guess the “ka” sound doesn’t have to be at the end, as long as it’s prominent –[name_f]Carys[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f] might work?

Or, a variation of the same idea: a name ending in a “k” sound, and the middle starting with “Ath”: [name_f]Angelique[/name_f]/ [name_u]Dominique[/name_u]/[name_f]Veronique[/name_f] etc , [name_f]Lark[/name_f], Tamarisk, [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] followed by mn like [name_f]Athena[/name_f], [name_f]Athenais[/name_f], [name_f]Athalia[/name_f]

Otherwise, I think any name that can reasonable be shortened to ‘[name_f]Cat[/name_f]/[name_f]Kat[/name_f]’ or even “[name_f]Kitty[/name_f]” could then make use of the other [name_f]Cathy[/name_f] names.
[name_f]Hecate[/name_f] (could also work with the last syllable followed by a “th” name. Plus, according to Nameberry, it’s possible [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] comes from Hecate. It’s meaning might or might not be a problem, though ) ? Catulla? [name_f]Toccata[/name_f]? [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] (for [name_f]Tabby[/name_f] [name_f]Cat[/name_f]) might work.
Some traditionally male names could work too: Cato, [name_f]Cataline[/name_f], [name_u]Nikita[/name_u]?

Some egs:

[name_f]Bianca[/name_f] [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f]
[name_f]Annika[/name_f] [name_f]Thais[/name_f]
[name_f]Frederica[/name_f] [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]
[name_f]Lark[/name_f] [name_f]Athenais[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Athena[/name_f]
[name_f]Hecate[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_u]Cato[/name_u] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]
