So, we are expecting our first child and don’t yet know the gender. We have a boy name that we like (Archer “Archie” Prescott) and like two girl names.
We are trying to decide between Ivy Sutton (Sutton is a family name) and Florence “Flora” Jane where both Florence and Jane are names from somewhere along the line in the families.
Someone in our family made it very clear today that she hates the Flora idea . They are supportive in every other way imaginable, so it didn’t really bother me. Always the risk when you share a name, I guess.
Anyways, I’d love to hear thoughts on these two names if you have any.
I really love all of your choices! [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_u]Sutton[/name_u], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] are all on my own list of names I like, and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is such a sweet middle name. I think I like [name_f]Florence[/name_f] “[name_f]Flora[/name_f]” [name_f]Jane[/name_f] the tiniest bit more than [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_u]Sutton[/name_u], but they’re both lovely.
I think [name_f]Florence[/name_f] would go well with [name_u]Archer[/name_u] [name_m]Prescott[/name_m] down the line! There’s multiple nn for [name_f]Florence[/name_f] so don’t be so worried about the dislike for [name_f]Flora[/name_f]!
Ivy [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] has a nice flow. It sounds polished, & is a fine name. I like the botanical imagery, but sometimes I just hear I.V., & can’t not hear it. I’m in the minority. Most people seem to like it. I find [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] a bit masculine, but as a mn, and it being a family name, I like it a lot.
Florence [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is very classy & elegant. And I think that [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is super sweet & beautiful. Are you in the U.S.? This is way more unique than [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] if so. And about the family member not liking [name_f]Flora[/name_f], I wouldn’t worry about it. They’ll most likely fall in love w/whatever name is attached to a sweet little baby.
Congratulations! First off, I LOVE both of them, but I’ve been crushing on [name_f]Florence[/name_f] lately, so [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is my pick. And the nickname [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is just so stunningly beautiful!
That’s a hard one!! They are both beautiful nature themed names. I guess I would give [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] the edge, since I’m not as fond of [name_f]Florence[/name_f] (though I love [name_f]Flora[/name_f]).
If you love [name_f]Flora[/name_f], I wouldn’t let your relative deter you. Everyone will grow to love the name as they love your little one. The person makes the name!

I love the polished, modern feel of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_u]Sutton[/name_u]! [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is incredibly beautiful, yet I would just fear the nickname [name_f]Flo[/name_f] with both [name_f]Florence[/name_f] & [name_f]Flora[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Florence[/name_f] but the only nickname I like for it is [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. Im also not a fan of [name_f]Flora[/name_f] but its not horrible or anything! People will just have different tastes and opinions and it doesn’t matter what they think! [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is nice but dull for me compared to [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] which is a stunning combination!

I just adore [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and think [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_u]Sutton[/name_u], if that’s at all possible, is a dream! Otherwise it’s a tough choice as I like both [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]; overall though I probably prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] as I don’t adore [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (but don’t mind it at all, especially considering it’s a family name). Both options really are lovely although again, [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] is my favourite possible combination.
I personally prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] because it feels more modern. [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is definitely more vintage which isn’t really my style.
