While we’ve been trying to avoid names that end in ‘a’, [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] came up last night while discussing names and browsing name lists and forums, as well as [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. I was thinking that we could potentially use both names together, but I can’t decide which order I prefer. I guess my favorite is [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], but do you think it’s too rhymey with big sister [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]? [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is definitely a big [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] fan now, with nickname [name_f]Evie[/name_f], and I like it too, but somehow it feels a little dated to me (despite the fact that I know it’s hugely popular right now). The only other name we’ve agreed on so far is [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], which I really like, but I’m not sure it’s the one yet… Help!
(We still need to discuss the new list I was able to put together from my other post!)
I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] are perfect together, much more so than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] seems more dated to me living in the UK, as the only [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]'s I know of are 20 plus. Whereas, [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] fits with a range of modern names; [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f] etc.
I would be inclined to go with [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]!
What about [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]? That’s kind of like combining [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], though I know you wanted to avoid names ending in “a”. If it ends up sounding too close to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], you could always call her [name_f]Evie[/name_f].
If you are sticking with [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] or [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], I say [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] has a nicer flow to it.
I like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] better. So gorgeous and pleasantly-retro! I love how stylish and vintage they sound. Beautiful!
Oh my goodness, I adore [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]! I am usually not a huge [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] fan (I prefer [name_f]Fiora[/name_f] or [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f] in general, and if I do like [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], it’s generally as a middle), but there’s something about [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] are pretty great together. Then again, I feel like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]/[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] are even more perfect together, and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] isn’t bad. There’s just something about [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]–she makes me envision purple daisies and breezes blowing over a meadow in [name_f]England[/name_f] in the midst of spring. And dancing little girls and happiness. I know what you mean about [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. I do like it, but I can’t seem to fully embrace it as a name for right now. Maybe it’s because the only [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] I really know is about to retire? I do have a former coworker who has a little [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f], though, so I do know it’s being used. Either name would be lovely! When I look at it at all angles, [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] slightly edges it out for me, but I still like [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] more as a combo. I’m not usually a big proponent of this, but in this case, [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is so magical that I just might use that on the birth certificate, but call her [name_f]Evie[/name_f]/[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]…
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is perfect. [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] I think flows really well and the nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is too cute!
I think both [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] sound great as a sibling set. To me, [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] flows a bit better but my personal favorite would be [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].
Hard decision! I completely understand your problem. Being in the US, I only know 2 Fionas who are children. I know a wide range of Evelyns, as it’s a classic name on an up-swing of popularity. I think I want to like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] more than I actually do. When I started this comment I was going to say go with [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], but as I have “talked it out” a bit, I think I’d actually recommend [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] lovely name, and especially if you are in the states, not too over-used yet. Can’t go wrong with either, though. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] too, by the way!
I think that [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] are beautiful together. [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is totally overused in my opinion - I’ve got a 1 and 2 year old and every little group we go to seems to have a different [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] in it, and we have yet to meet one [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] also has a fresher sound than [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]. [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is beautiful.
I prefer the order [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. Plus [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] sound very nice as a sib-set.
Thank you for all the nice comments! I think I will keep those two options on the table for now, although I’m really not sure about using [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] as a first name. Maybe what I’ll do is start looking for options with [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] as middle name, as a way of compromising.
