Which order sounds better?

I think we are pretty close to choosing a name for our baby boy. My top name is [name]Sage[/name] and hubby likes [name]Julian[/name] but we can’t decide which order sounds best… [name]Sage[/name] [name]Julian[/name] or [name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name]. The other dilemma is that no matter which order we choose I really want him to go by “[name]Sage[/name]” but of course hubby begs to differ.

So what do you think of the order of the names AND which name do you prefer in terms of what he would mainly go by?? Thank you!

I prefer the name [name]Julian[/name] so I think the [name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name] combo sounds better. The “g” and “j” in [name]Sage[/name] [name]Julian[/name] aren’t ideal for flow.

[name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name] sounds better.

[name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name]

I prefer the order of [name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name], but if your going to call him [name]Sage[/name] anyway, then I would put that first. My husbands parents started calling him by his middle as a baby, so that became the name he goes by and he has always hated that the name he uses isn’t his legal first name and never understood why they didn’t just make his first his middle and his middle his first at birth!

[name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name] flows much better. I’m also in favor of putting the more “normal” or common name first, because if he loves the middle it’s easy to say “Yeah, I’m [name]Julian[/name] [name]Johnson[/name], I go by my middle name [name]Sage[/name].” But if he hates his first then he’ll be wincing every time he says, “Yes, [name]Sage[/name] [name]Julian[/name] [name]Johnson[/name], call me [name]Julian[/name] please.”

If you want to call him [name]Sage[/name], I would go with [name]Sage[/name] [name]Julian[/name].

[name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name] sounds a lot better.

Personally I prefer [name]Julian[/name] as a name, and I think you should call him by whatever his first name ends up being so it doesn’t confuse him, but you could always have [name]Sage[/name] as your nickname if that ends up as middle.

I think [name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name] sounds better, but if he will be known as [name]Sage[/name] you should name him [name]Sage[/name] [name]Julian[/name]. My parents are both known by their middles and they both find it very inconvenient. It’s not as though you would be saying his whole name very often anyway.

I agree! I like [name]Sage[/name], and you could call him that b/c I know several people that go by their mn only.

Another vote for [name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name] sounding better, although [name]Sage[/name] [name]Julian[/name] sounds okay and makes more sense if you’re just going to call him [name]Sage[/name] anyway. However, I would hesistate about calling him [name]Sage[/name] with a brother named [name]Shane[/name]. They just sound way too much alike to my ear, and I think it would be a bit confusing.

[name]Julian[/name] sage flows better. If you truly plan to call him [name]Sage[/name] though, I would use that as the first to avoid confusion.

[name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name] sounds nicer imo.

Thanks for all the feedback. It is very much appreciated and I kind of agree that [name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name] flows better but I just had my heart set on calling him “[name]Sage[/name]”. We still have time to decide before he gets here but then again we have never decided 100% on our kids’ names until they are in our arms!

[name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name] sounds much better.

I also prefer the name [name]Julian[/name] nn [name]Jules[/name] to the name [name]Sage[/name]. [name]Sage[/name] just makes me think of the herb.

I like [name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name], unless he will be called [name]Sage[/name]. Then, I would flip them.

Is [name]Sage[/name] unisex? I would think [name]Sage[/name] was a girl. Maybe I’m just ignorant. I like [name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name] though!

I like the flow of [name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name], but it also depends on your last name and how it all flows together.

I agree with mischa on the jarring g/j juxtaposition of [name]Sage[/name] [name]Julian[/name]. [name]Julian[/name] [name]Sage[/name] flows much better.
