[name]Tristan[/name] and [name]Anton[/name] are my favorites, but I actually think they all work.
I agree. [name]Anton[/name] and [name]Tristan[/name] flow the best with your surname.
I voted for [name]Anton[/name] and [name]Tristan[/name] as I like both names and I think they flow best with your last name.
I really like [name]Corvin[/name] actually. It sounds modern and fun.
I really like [name]Tristan[/name]. [name]Anton[/name] is also nice.
Another vote for [name]Tristan[/name]!
I’m wondering where you live. They are all good options but some would lend themselves to confusion, mispronunciation and misspelling in [name]America[/name]. That doesn’t necessarily bother me, but might bother you. [name]Alexandru[/name] will be assumed to be misspelled and [name]Anton[/name] has a couple of pronunciations. I think in the US most people would say An-twan, whereas in Europe it is often said as An-tun/ton. If your wife will say it one way but everyone else another, this might bother you. The ones that are likely to be said and spelled correctly, I think are [name]Tristan[/name], [name]Emil[/name] and [name]Corvin[/name] (the last to a lesser degree because there is well-known [name]Corbin[/name] and people might assume this is what it is)
I live in [name]America[/name] and happen to have known a few [name]Anton[/name]'s, all have been pronounced an-ton, not an-twan. puzzled It’s a pretty self explanatory name to me.
I voted for [name]Alexandru[/name], love it! I forgot to vote for [name]Anton[/name] but I like that one, too!
I like [name]Emil[/name] best, but [name]Alexandru[/name] nearly got my vote–I love it! It reminds me of the (I think Romanian?) Beatriu, which I think is so cool. And now that I think of it, I think [name]Alexandru[/name] [name]Buck[/name] sounds better than [name]Emil[/name] does–[name]Emil[/name] is just a bit too abrupt. I think either would work really well, though–they’re both very handsome.
[name]Anton[/name] and [name]Emil[/name] are awesome awesome. I understand the [name]Tristan[/name] appeal, but I’m not a big fan of it. [name]Alexandru[/name] is cool, if your in the US or somewhere else where [name]Alexander[/name] is a pretty common name, [name]Alexandru[/name] might have a slightly made-up feel (even though it’s not, of course). Not a deal breaker, but just something to consider. [name]Corvin[/name] is medicorely cool, not bad.
I was really excited to see this post. DH is Romanian, and we met, married, and have lived for the past 5 years in the northern part of the country. It’s not often on NB that there have been posts about Romanian names!
From your list, [name]Alexandru[/name] and [name]Emil[/name] are more “traditional” Romanian names. I have never met a [name]Tristan[/name] or Anton (and I work as a teacher so I encounter lots of kids). Though there is a loose connection to Romania, these names do not scream “Romanian” to me (although maybe that’s what you are going for). Corvin is the name of a castle here which is a cool way to honor your wife’s heritage.
[name]Alexandru[/name] is one of the most common boys names over here, though if you are living in the US people might hear it as a mispronounced version of [name]Alexander[/name].
[name]Emil[/name] is pronounced more like Eh-meal with the common nickname of [name]Emi[/name] (Eh-me).
Other suggestions (that are traditional here in [name]RO[/name] and would scream Eastern European to me if I heard them in the States):
[name]Adrian[/name] (nn [name]Adi[/name])
[name]Aurelian[/name] (nn Relu)
[name]Bogdan[/name]
[name]Ciprian[/name] (pronounced like Chipri-on)
[name]Claudiu[/name]
Iulian (pronounced like You-lee-on)
Mihai
[name]Nicolai[/name] (nn [name]Nico[/name])
Razvan (pronounced [name]Roz[/name]-von)
[name]Sebastian[/name] (nn Sebi)
[name]Stefan[/name] (pronounced like [name]Stef[/name]-on)
[name]Valentine[/name] (pronounced with teen at the end)
GL!
I thought the same. [name]Antoine[/name] is spelled much differently than [name]Anton[/name].
I prefer [name]Tristan[/name] but also like [name]Emil[/name].
I love both [name]Tristan[/name] and [name]Anton[/name]. I also think [name]Emil[/name] would work really well.
Thanks all for the input!
