[name]Hal[/name] ([name]Harold[/name]) and [name]Mauve[/name] are cute together… but I would avoid the combo because of the movie [name]Harold[/name] and [name]Maude[/name].
[name]Hal[/name] ([name]Harold[/name]) and [name]Dot[/name] ([name]Dorothy[/name]) would be adorable together. I would go for another full name with a cute nickname instead of a short name like [name]Mae[/name] or [name]Sadie[/name].
Thanks Sarab.Cook and Niteowl13. I love [name]Dorothy[/name], but I’m worried about almost all possible nns. [name]Dolly[/name] reminds me of [name]Dolly[/name] [name]Parton[/name], [name]Dora[/name] makes me think of [name]Dora[/name] the [name]Explorer[/name], and [name]Dory[/name] brings to mind ‘Finding [name]Nemo[/name].’ I like [name]Dot[/name] the best, but I think of ‘[name]Hope[/name] Floats’ and the girl they called PolkaDot. I’m not a fan of -ttie in names either, as they sound like -ddy to me instead. Like [name]Matty[/name] sounds the same as [name]Maddie[/name]. I like your suggestions though of using a longer name and trying to find a short nn instead of just using a short name. Thanks for responding.
I agree with Sarab. [name]Dorothy[/name] seems to match [name]Harold[/name] very well, and [name]Hal[/name] and [name]Dot[/name] are cute together. [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Dot[/name] as a nn?
I voted [name]Meave[/name] before I read text abd saw your sons full name is [name]Harold[/name]!! I agree with pp that movie [name]Harold[/name] and [name]Maude[/name] is too close to [name]Harold[/name] and [name]Meave[/name]! I think [name]Dorothy[/name] and [name]Harold[/name] ([name]Hal[/name] & [name]Dottie[/name]) are perfect… Thus one more vote for [name]Dorothy[/name]!
I understand the concern over [name]Harold[/name] and [name]Maeve[/name] being too similar to [name]Harold[/name] and [name]Maude[/name], however, because our son goes by [name]Hal[/name], I don’t think it would be a serious issue. The only time anyone calls him [name]Harold[/name] is our first time somewhere. (Like the first time at the dentist, doctor, etc.) After that, they all make a note and call him [name]Hal[/name]. I do love the name [name]Dorothy[/name], but if we just call her [name]Dorothy[/name], no nn, is that still your vote with [name]Hal[/name]?
OK- because of all the great feedback, hubby and I have reconsidered our options. Please discontinue this poll and vote on our new poll, with our updated options! Thanks so much for all the help. I feel like we are making real progress!
