I can’t really comment on them as spellings because they technically both have two completely distinct pronunciations. Although they are from the same route, the Welsh (and Brits in general) regard them as seperate names like [name]Isobel[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name].

[name]Carys[/name] is ‘KAH-riss’ like the ‘a’ in cat

[name]Carys[/name] is ‘KEH-riss’ rhyming with ‘ferris’

You can listen to them both here:

[name]Cerys[/name] is the more popular and widely used in [name]Wales[/name] although [name]Carys[/name] is quite well used as well.

So, my vote goes for [name]Cerys[/name] if you like the Care-is sound out of sheer accuracy and authenticity

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Tara[/name]! I love the name [name]Carys[/name], and while I think both spellings are beautiful, [name]Carys[/name] is my favorite.

Is [name]Carys[/name] back on the table now with [name]Norah[/name]?

Good luck!

Hey [name]Jill[/name]!
[name]Norah[/name] is still a front runner but now [name]Isla[/name] is back in the mix.
There were a couple of seperate suggestions of [name]Carys[/name]/[name]Cerys[/name] as a middle name for [name]Isla[/name] and I think that it sounds lovely together. I’m just not sure of the spelling to use. I prefer [name]Carys[/name] visually but I’m afraid people are going to think it is pronounced “[name]Cary[/name]'s”.
[name]Do[/name] you see a potential issue with that? I guess people wouldn’t really be saying the kid’s middle name very often anyway, huh?

Good to hear from you!

[name]Tara[/name]

Hey! I love [name]Isla[/name] [name]Carys[/name] W____! That’s so pretty! And I’m glad [name]Norah[/name] is still a favorite.

Aha! Okay…I was just on the phone, and I spelled [name]Carys[/name] to a friend (a non-name nerd), and I asked her how she’d pronounce it. Guess what? She said, “Care-iss, how else?” Yea! I’ll ask some more non-name nerds and get back to you.

(Like you said, people won’t be pronouncing her middle name often, and she can always tell people how to pronounce it if they have trouble. I love [name]Isla[/name] [name]Carys[/name] so much!)

I love your top choices! Did you come up with a final boys’ name?

I need to get juice. Oh, orange or cranberry…what to do, what to do. Life is just filled with difficult decisions. Okay, I’m going with the orange!

Have a good night!
