‘[name]Allen[/name]’ is actually my Mother’s maiden name, so this one’s a no-brainer for me!
[name]Allen[/name] is reminiscent of [name]Edgar[/name] [name]Allen[/name] [name]Poe[/name], so I have to choose that spelling!
It seems more vintage, elegantly old-fashioned to me. I definitely prefer it to [name]Alan[/name], [name]Allan[/name], and [name]Alun[/name].
[name]Allen[/name] is totally on my list as a MN.
xo, theatrenut23
Thanks for the posts and votes so far! Theatrenut23, wasn’t he [name]Edgar[/name] [name]Allan[/name] [name]Poe[/name]?
[name]Alan[/name] is my brother’s middle name, so i chose that spelling. I also like the idea of nn Lan rather than [name]Al[/name]. I had a friend in school named Lan, so I’ve always kinda liked that name.
[name]Alan[/name] is my preferred spelling. It seems the most simple and charming to me.
To me, [name]Alan[/name] is a first name and [name]Allen[/name] is more of a surname. [name]Alan[/name] is the original and [name]Allen[/name] is a variant. I prefer [name]Alan[/name].
These are my thoughts as well.
I agree that [name]Alan[/name] is more of a first name and [name]Allen[/name] more of a last, but I do like [name]Allen[/name] as a first (I voted for both). [name]Allan[/name] and [name]Alun[/name] seem misspelled to me.
I love [name]Alan[/name], [name]Allan[/name] and [name]Allen[/name] but my favorite right now is probably [name]Allan[/name]<3
I agree with jennipea- exactly what I was going to say. [name]Alan[/name] for fn and [name]Allen[/name] is a last name.
[name]Alan[/name] is my dad and brother’s middle name, so if I ever used it, that would be how I spelled it.
There is an episode of Two and a Half Men, where [name]Charlie[/name] equates [name]Alan[/name]'s name to a part of the body. So that just turned me off of that spelling forever.
I’m very interested by the votes so far–they’re not quite what I expected, but that’s why I created this poll! I hadn’t thought of it before, but I agree with several posters’ opinion that [name]Alan[/name] is a first name and [name]Allen[/name] a last name. When I created this, I was waffling between [name]Alan[/name] and [name]Allan[/name]. In my opinion, [name]Allen[/name] is a bit boring and [name]Alun[/name] a bit weird. I like the simplicity of [name]Alan[/name] and that it was the original form of the name; I like [name]Allan[/name]'s resemblance to the word “gallant.” Under the influence of the stats, [name]Alan[/name] may have an edge right now
I prefer the Welsh [name]Alun[/name], but [name]Alan[/name] and [name]Alain[/name] come in second place.
I like [name]Allen[/name] better, but I see the appeal of [name]Allan[/name] for [name]Edgar[/name] [name]Allan[/name] [name]Poe[/name]…
i like [name]Allen[/name]… it’s a family name. (middle name for my brother, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather!)
Thanks for the votes and comments, everyone! Thanks, miloowen, for the addition of [name]Alain[/name]–it’s the French version, correct? If I ever decided to use the name, this poll has probably tipped my decision in favor of [name]Alan[/name]. Thanks again!
