I agree - the Spanish name [name]Matias[/name] is pronounced the way you are looking for. I have heard [name]Matthias[/name] and [name]Mattias[/name] pronounced as ma-[name]TYE[/name]-us.

We like the way “[name]Mattias[/name]” looks - it’s the Swedish version, and also pronounced muh-TEE-us… The goal is to pick the version that makes the most sense in an American context and leads to the least amount of confusion. Thanks for voting!

However, [name]Mathias[/name] is my favorite spelling of the name. Though you’d probably get a lot of Ma-thigh-as.
