Honestly, I couldn’t pick, I like them both. I would have to look at the whole picture (whether it’s first or middle, and what name/s it will be paired with including last name) before a real opinion could be formed.
At this point in time [name]Mae[/name] would be her first name with her surname being McKeown. She would have sisters named [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Nora[/name] or brothers named [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Felix[/name]. I like [name]Mae[/name] because it doesn’t have the same ending as [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Henry[/name] or [name]Felix[/name], but it’s not a deal breaker.
I think it depends on the situation/setting. I like [name]May[/name] better as a MN, but I like [name]Mae[/name] better as a FN. But then I think of the children’s book The Trouble with [name]May[/name] [name]Amelia[/name], and then [name]May[/name] as a FN appeals to me all over again! I love that [name]May[/name] is so simple and streamlined, but [name]Mae[/name] holds a certain appeal I can’t really put into words. [name]Both[/name] are lovely. I think for a FN, though, I would use [name]Mae[/name].
This is something I struggled with. For me it comes down to whichever looks better with the middle name or surname.
I chose [name]May[/name] though. I prefer it as a first name.
I’ve loved [name]Mae[/name] for years! For some reason, it’s fresher to me than [name]May[/name].
I prefer [name]Mae[/name] simply because I hate Y’s, lol.
I like [name]May[/name] better. Personally, I find [name]Mae[/name] to be [name]May[/name] spelled differently in order to sound unique.
