[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries!
Which spelling is better, [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]? I would want to use the nn [name_f]Milly[/name_f], but I feel like I could use it with both spellings. Which spelling do you prefer?

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]! I’ve grown to the place where I can accept [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], but I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]–find it so much more streamlined and timeless and sweet. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] has always been musty and icky for me. 
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]'s a family name, but if I ever honor her, it’ll be with the [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] spelling. I adore it to pieces.
I prefer [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] looks odd to me, plus it [name_m]WILL[/name_m] be mistaken as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].
Your choice depends partly upon pronunciation and partly upon whether you wish to consider the names’ origins.
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is prn ah-MEE-lee-ə. Origin: An English variant of the Germanic [name_f]Amalia[/name_f], which is derived from amal (work). Alternatively, it may be a variant of [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] (rival).
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is prn eh-MEE-lee-ə. Origin: Feminine form of [name_m]Emil[/name_m], derived from the Latin Aemilius, an old [name_m]Roman[/name_m] family name probably derived from aemulus (rival, trying to equal or excel, emulating) There are some who thing [name_m]Emilio[/name_m] is of Germanic origin and derive it from the element amal (work).
I personally prefer [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], but that’s just me.
They’re two completely different names. Personally, I’d go with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] because it’s more recognizable. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] was on my list with my first daughter and everyone kept thinking I was saying [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is much better - more classy, elegant, less trendy, and calls to mind [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] Earheart, a good role model.
