Which spelling?

Which spelling do you like better: [name_f]Aislin[/name_f] or [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] ([name_u]ASH[/name_u]-lin)? I think I slightly prefer [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f]. I don’t care for the trendy [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f] or the -g ending in [name_f]Aisling[/name_f], even though [name_f]Aisling[/name_f] is the traditional Irish spelling ([name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] is a popular Irish spelling too).

What middle names would sound good with it when paired with my last name, [name_m]McDonald[/name_m]? I was thinking [name_f]Jane[/name_f] in memory of one of my great-aunts who passed away from liver cancer almost two years ago and in honor of my mom [name_f]Janet[/name_f], but I’d like more suggestions.

Either one or two middle names is fine.

I personally like the look of [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] better (eventhough [name_f]Aisling[/name_f] is my favorite), but the double n might cause some spelling annoyances from time to time if you’re located outside of the UK (I don’t know if you are).

[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is very pretty!

[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is lovely! [name_f]Do[/name_f] prefer [name_f]Aisling[/name_f] though.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]McDonald[/name_m] so you could include [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and the -et of [name_f]Janet[/name_f] in two names as obviously you couldn’t use both [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Janet[/name_f].

I’m in the US. I can understand pronunciation issues with the double n in [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f]. Other Irish names like [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] and [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f] get mispronounced too, even though both are familiar. I’ve even seen the boys’ names [name_m]Sean[/name_m] and [name_m]Ian[/name_m] get mispronounced and those are very common.

As for [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], not too crazy about [name_f]Etta[/name_f]. It just feels a little too old-fashioned. It flows nicely though.

I am not familiar enough with the name to choose which spelling I think is best. By look, I prefer [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] or [name_f]Aisling[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f]/[name_f]Aisling[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a beautiful combo.

All names can be mispronounced and misspelled, even the simplest of names.

I prefer [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f], and [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is lovely.

I honestly don’t have a preference. If it’s [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] vs [name_f]Aislin[/name_f], [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] gets my vote just because it’s the more popular, and therefore more familiar, US spelling. I know almost every name can be misspelled and mispronounced, so I would go with whatever feels truest to you.

[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is lovely, and I think the full name sounds great.

I prefer [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f]. [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_m]McDonald[/name_m] sounds fantastic! As does [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]McDonald[/name_m]. My first idea was [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but I used to have [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] on my list, and love that, too (I love that it means “dream hope”). I think [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is also very pretty, but if you’re not crazy about [name_f]Etta[/name_f], I understand. A few more ideas:

[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Noemi[/name_f]/[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]
[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]

Good luck!

I love [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] too. I also like [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], and [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] too, but the N’s in both names run into each other. [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] is actually another one of the FN choices on my list.

I don’t think it makes a difference whether you spell it with one n or two. So I say go with whatever one is your favourite. I love Irish names but I would find it difficult to pronounce but if I was told the correct way, I don’t think it would be an issue. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a beautiful middle name, it is so simple yet elegant.

[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] is pronounced ash-ling (very soft G sound on end), not [name_u]Ash[/name_u]-lin.

Are you pronouncing the name [name_u]ASH[/name_u]-lin or [name_u]ASH[/name_u]-ling? If [name_u]ASH[/name_u]-lin then either [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Aislin[/name_f]. If [name_u]ASH[/name_u]-ling then either [name_f]Aisling[/name_f] or [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f]. My personal favorites are [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Aisling[/name_f], so if just depends on how you pronounce it. If you’re between [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] and [name_f]Aislin[/name_f] I prefer two N’s.
