Which Spelling?

I’m liking the name [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], but I’ve seen it spelled multiple ways. I’m wondering which way is prettiest/most approachable/easy to spell etc? Thoughts?

I like the classic [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], but the [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] spelling would be my second choice. Such a pretty name!

I prefer [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. No unnecessary letters.

I like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]. Though I would read them with a subtle pronunciation difference. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] has more of an emphasis on the -en, while [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] has a softer -an sound. I think [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] looks prettier, and I sound assume it was pronounced a bit more… [name_m]French[/name_m].

I like the look of [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] more, and as the poster above said, I pronounce it a bit different than [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. I think the [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] spelling would be easier to use because of how simple it is.

[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] are both great. [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is traditionally the masculine spelling ([name_u]Vivien[/name_u] with an -en being the [name_m]French[/name_m] masculine counterpart to feminine [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f],) but it’s used pretty heavily in the states for girls now. I think people view the spelling as more “streamlined”. I slightly prefer [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] but think both are perfectly fine to use.

I think both are nice. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is a little more frillier and feminine, while [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is a lot less so (being a traditionally masculine name, though gone almost strictly feminine nowadays) and is a little more streamlined and slightly classier.

As others have mentioned, I too would pronounce them differently - [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]'s emphasis is more on the last syllable, while [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]'s is on the first. So I suppose that would play part too - which pronunciation do you prefer?

I think [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] (like [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u]) is prettiest, though I find [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] to be the simplest and it’s the spelling I have encountered most, so it is the spelling I would assume.

I would pronounce [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] the same as [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] or [name_u]Vivien[/name_u], but I prefer the shorter, more streamlined spellings.

I think they are pronounced slightly different, so I suppose it depends on what you prefer. I personally like the look and sound of [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] more

I like [name_u]Vivien[/name_u]

I don’t like the name, but the [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] pronunciation (with emphasis on -enne) makes it less severe to my ear and it prettier to look at so I’d go for that.

I prefer the look of [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], but I pronounce them slightly differently. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]'s ending is more emphasised as ENN than [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]'s.

[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is more feminine than [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] in my opinion, so I think the -enne spelling is my favorite. I’ve also seen it spelled like [name_f]Vivianne[/name_f], but I’m not a big fan of it that way.

I pronounce [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] slightly differently so I’d say it depends on how you want to pronounce it. I personally prefer the look and the sound of [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]!
