Which Spelling?

[name_f]Sonja[/name_f] or [name_f]Sonya[/name_f]? and if possible Why?

Pronounced SAWN-ya

[name_f]Sonya[/name_f] for me! I find the y more appealing for a girl’s name; it looks softer. I usually prefer y’s over j’s for most names. [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Anya[/name_f], etc. But [name_f]Sonja[/name_f] certainly isn’t bad

[name_f]Sonya[/name_f]! I like how it looks

[name_f]Sonya[/name_f] is how I’d instinctively spell it!

[name_f]Sonya[/name_f] is my favorite. It’s easier to spell in my opinion and I also prefer how it looks with the Y.

I think [name_f]Sonya[/name_f] makes the pronunciation more intuitive in an English-speaking country, although as a native [name_m]German[/name_m] speaker [name_f]Sonja[/name_f] actually appeals to me more! I think it depends which one would work best with the pronunciation rules where you live. I also really love the spelling [name_f]Sonia[/name_f].

I love the name!
The only [name_f]Sonya[/name_f]/[name_f]Sonja[/name_f] I know spells it as [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] but…
I definitely prefer [name_f]Sonja[/name_f] over [name_f]Sonya[/name_f]. It feels like one of those European names that people are liking right now, whereas [name_f]Sonya[/name_f] looks a bit dated to me. Not sure why but it does.
