Bonus Question: What would you give for a middle name(s)?
i like katherine best, although it’s tied with katharine for me and i go between them !! i really can’t get behind catherine, because this spelling just makes me think catheter. kathryn is cool too, but i prefer the length and classic feel to katherine.
my full ranking looks something like:
katharine = katherine > katheryn > kathryn >> catheryn > catherine > catharine > cathryn
I have a strong opinion on this lol.
Fist of all, I don’t like how the capital K looks at the beginning of names. No idea why, I just think it’s too harsh. Therefore I much prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is actually one of my favourite names- I think she’s elegant, dreamy, graceful, and full of pretty soft pastel hues and light.
[name_f]Catharine[/name_f] is also fine, but the A is a little over-whelming for me since there is already an A in Cath. A is red so this automatically turns the name autumnal. Still beautiful, just a little in-balanced
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] feels very stiff, stern, and harsh, not a really pretty vibe. From the K I get a dull, murky dark green colour. It does have a classic feel that I appreciate- but over all the other spellings are much better.
[name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] sounds a bit clipped to me. I know technically all these spellings are supposed to sound the same, but in me head [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is CATH-uh-rin (with a whisper of the e) while [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] is just KATH-rin.
[name_f]My[/name_f] ranking:
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] > [name_f]Catharine[/name_f] > [name_f]Cathryn[/name_f] > [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] > [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] > [name_f]Katharine[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] looks/feels the most classic and timeless to me, and I think it stands out a little bit more! I also like the nickname Cat/Kat and I think it’s cuter when spelled [name_f]Cat[/name_f] like the animal, so that’s another reason.
I prefer Catherine. I just don’t like K names, and -erine is more classic and elegant.
Catherine Emily
Catherine Julia
Catherine Joy
Catherine Ramona
Catherine Sylvie
Catherine Lucille
Catherine Selene
Catherine Alice
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is my favorite. The C just feels much softer and vintage-y compared to spellings with a K.
I think if I were naming a [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] today, her middle name would be [name_u]Blythe[/name_u].
That was a tough one, I expect you’ll have to spell it either way because one doesn’t stand out as the “normal” spelling to me. I voted for both K versions, the more classic because it might be misspelled less often but I do like the Y version, it just has something special. I pronounce them all with two syllables also, for what it’s worth. Maybe try:
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_u]Blythe[/name_u]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], although I don’t particularly have anything wrong with [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f]. The [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] spelling just looks a bit more refined to me.
Honestly, I keep my middle names short and classic, so today she’d be [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u] or [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Rose[/name_u].
As a sidetone it seems like Katherines are more likely to use nicknames, while Catherines are more likely to use the name in full.
I like the slightly spikier vibes of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] (and it links to my fave show so… )
I’d consider the middles:
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Luella[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Tesni[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
Biased because it was how my grandmother’s middle name was spelled, with a C.
I really like all of them and they all have a different feel to them so it kind of depends on the vibe you want, but I voted [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] because I’ve known quite a few C/Katherine/yns and it seems like the Catherines have the easiest time clarifying their spelling. “Catherine with a C” usally gets [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] with just that amount of explaination whereas Katherine/Kathryns end up having to spell out their whole name every time to clarify both the beginning and ending. That being said, they are all lovely and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] feels softer and more gentle, [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] feels very strong and opinionated, and [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] feels quirky and artistic so it also depends a bit on your vibe. I’m personally a big fan of Kathryn’s vibes so that almost got my vote.
I like the classic [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]!
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] seems most traditional to me which is why it’s my favourite. I like [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] as well because it’s a friend’s name. I’ve never liked the [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] spelling (even though it’s my cousin’s, lol)
