Which way?

Hi Berries. Daisy is my number one gal & has been for a while, but I’m loving Dorothea nn Daisy lately. Is it too much of a stretch & a hassle? I really like the idea of a ‘D’ name to honor my dad, David (even though this is a hypothetical baby.) Also, I am not a Swiftie, so that’s not why I am falling for Dorothea. :blush:

Which do you prefer & why? Thanks!

daisy could be one of those not related to the fn nicknames, like honey or pumpkin etc, but as a related nickname, i don’t think it works. all daisy and dorothea have in common is the first letter…! would you be open to daisy dorothea if you want to include both?

daisy aviva is springy and beautiful anyways! :bouquet:

i love Dorothea but i don’t think Daisy makes sense unfortunately - the only thing they share is the D initial. they’re completely separate names to me.

although i love both dorothea and daisy, i dont think dorothea “daisy” makes a lot of sense, but if u enforced the nn enough it could work, but i feel dorothea would always get dorothy, dot or thea. (which are all very cute names!) and as for dorothea abigail the two a’s clash a bit for me and make it not roll off the tongue, if anything dorothy abigal would sound better and is very cute. but i do loveeee daisy aviva!!

if you really wanna use both names i’d say go for it. or i like @gilberts_girlie 's idea of daisy dorothea or even dorothea daisy~!

Hmm…not sure about this one.

[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is reminding me of [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_u]Gale[/name_u] (which was scary when the witch said it!). More seriously though (within all this not being super serious!), the syllable count seems a bit off and I also don’t love the flow from the A ending of the first to the A beginning of the middle. I think [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] flows much better (or [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] with a one or two syllable name). So, I like the individual names of [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] but the overall combo of [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] better.

As for [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] for [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] nickname, I think it’s about OK but I wonder if better just to pick the name you love most - and then being open to [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] being nicknamed [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] but also perhaps [name_f]Dot[/name_f] or [name_f]Thea[/name_f] etc. [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] or [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] (which has a better rhythm to me than with Abigail). Not sure how attached you are to your names, but a different middle might make [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] make a little more sense - eg [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] nn [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] or [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] nn Daisy…

I’m a massive fan of [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] “Daisy”… but I do have a track record of liking stretchy nicknames. However, I do think it could work if you let people know her nickname would be [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] to deter [name_f]Dot[/name_f] / [name_f]Dorrie[/name_f] / [name_f]Dotty[/name_f]. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] sure feels more intuitive for [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] than [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]!
I do prefer [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] to [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f], but I like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] more as a nickname than a standalone. Have you considered [name_f]Dasia[/name_f]?
[name_f]My[/name_f] vote goes to [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] “Daisy”, or even just [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. What beautiful names!

[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]!

Both names are beautiful.

However I feel it has to come down to which name you prefer as [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] in my opinion doesn’t really work as a nickname for [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]. There isn’t anything tying [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] & [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] together aside from the letter D. Therefore I went with [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. I feel [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is your true love I strongly associate [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] with yourself and from my understanding you have more of a connection to [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] :blossom:
I love the springy happiness of [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] she’s so bright and joyous. I also feel that due to [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] having the ‘da’ beginning along with sharing the same amount of letters as [name_u]David[/name_u] she feels more of an honour choice in comparison to [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f].

I don’t think [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] works as a nickname for [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], it’s a separate name that has no connection except the initial. The only way it would stick is to introduce her as [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] as if that were her actual name and people don’t generally know about the existence of the formal name, in which case you may as well call her [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], as it would be just naming her one thing and calling her a completely different name which is nonsensical. It also gets complicated in circumstances where people have to know the formal name as a matter of official record, for example doctor’s surgeries or later on schools and employers, and then you have to try to drum [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] home. Both names are nice, I prefer [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] I think, though I definitely prefer [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] to [name_f]Aviva[/name_f].

I like the sweet and simple [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] with the bright [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]! It has a fun, but cosy/vintage feel, with a bit of sass too.

[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is nice too, just a bit heavy for me. Maybe with a different middle, I’d like it more.

@gilberts_girlie Thanks! You’re right. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] would be a very stretchy nick-name. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is cute! I’m so glad that you like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]. :slight_smile:

@venezio Thanks for your response. You seem to be in the majority in thinking that [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is too stretchy as a [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] that you love [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]!

@nameblossom Thank you! So glad that you love [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]! I don’t love any other [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] nns too much, so it would have to be a call her [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] only situation. I don’t mind [name_f]Thea[/name_f], but my nephew is [name_u]Theo[/name_u], so that may be too much.

@EloiseT Oh my gosh, thank you so much for bringing the [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_u]Gale[/name_u] thing to my attention! I like [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] of [name_m]Oz[/name_m], but not enough to have a child named something that close to [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_u]Gale[/name_u]. [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] might be a good suggestion for someone who wants a [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] of [name_m]Oz[/name_m] themed name. :grin:

@lilyofthevale Thank you so much! I’m glad that you like the idea of [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] nn [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] is romantic & strong & feels adult. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is the sweetest & I love her, but do struggle picturing a grown up [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] sometimes. I have not thought of [name_f]Dasia[/name_f], but is that basically like [name_f]Dasha[/name_f]? I don’t love the sound, but I love that it’s Russian (which is where all of my great grandparents came from.) [name_f]Dasha[/name_f] nn [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is a neat idea.

@heartwings Thanks! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like it so much. :slight_smile:

@tori101 Thank you! It seems like you have a good memory. I have been stuck on [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] for a long time, & it is closer to [name_u]David[/name_u] (plus, my dad did like flowers a lot!) It does make more sense to use [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] as a full name. I have a hard time picturing it on an adult sometimes, but obviously a lot of adult Daisys do exist.

@Lula-Rose Thank you. You’re right; it would a be a pain. And that’s a concern. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is stand alone enough that it works on its own. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] is cute though, but I still prefer [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] a bit more.

@Greyblue Thank you! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] that you like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] so much. :slight_smile:
