Whimsical Middle Names

I was so set on naming baby girl [name]Eva[/name] [name]Luella[/name] but my husband hates it and I don’t think I’ll be getting anywhere with it. Second choice is [name]Eleanor[/name]. I’ve always loved this name but I’m not falling in love with it and maybe adding a great middle name would help. [name]Eleanor[/name] is a very proper old fashioned name so I feel it would be best to give her a whimsical middle name but after reading many threads and a million google searches I’m coming up blank. Ideas anyone?? Also I would probably caller her [name]Nora[/name] for short not [name]Ella[/name].

Hmmm, here are some suggestions (though I think whimsical means different things to different people).

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Plum[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Lola[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Tallulah[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Scout[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Sage[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Jessamy[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Calliope[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Athena[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Joy[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Camille[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Apollonia[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Adella[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Melody[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Marina[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Luna[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Aurora[/name]

[name]Nora[/name]'s a cool nn for [name]Eleanor[/name]! My favourite [name]Eleanor[/name] nn is [name]Nell[/name].

I’m not entirely sure what your idea of whimisical is but I’ll have a crack:
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Giselle[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Snow[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Prairie[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Tallulah[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Luna[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Phaedre[/name] (fay-druh)
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Yvaine[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Freya[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Skye[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Temperance[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kerenza[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Starling[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Ember[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Haven[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Fable[/name]

That’s all I got right now. [name]Hope[/name] there were some you like

I like:

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Cassandra[/name]

I’ve had the same problem!

I absolutely love [name]Eleanor[/name], but I felt it needed something to spice it up. I had liked Elila/[name]Alila[/name] as an option, which respectively meant “God of the feminine” and “she who cries”–both were very meaningful to me, and I liked how light, sprightly, and lively they were next to [name]Eleanor[/name]. I didn’t like the repeated [name]El[/name]/[name]Al[/name] sounds, though, and I thought it was a bit too much frill, so I considered [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Lila[/name] after that. I still like it, but eh, I don’t know. I’m also considering [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Posy[/name] ([name]Posy[/name] was a nn I’d wanted to use, but could never find a full name I liked, so I figured it might be a bit more usable as a MN) and [name]Eleanor[/name] Lisieux (leez-YOO; it would have been after St. [name]Therese[/name] of Lisieux… I’m not a Catholic, but I am a [name]Christian[/name] and I really appreciated her story). I’d seen someone post [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Sequoia[/name] a while back but never used it, and I thought that perfectly encapsulated what I was looking for. And I quite liked [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Serena[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Zara[/name], and [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kaia[/name], too.

Sorry, I’m not sure what to suggest, I haven’t really found what I’m looking for, either! [name]Eleanor[/name] seems to be a hard one to pair up. [name]Feel[/name] free to take one of my combos if you like it, haha. I like the pp’s suggestion of [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Luna[/name], as well.

Good luck!

Oh! I love this post as I am desperate for a little whimsy in our chosen middle name. Names that we…err…I’m considering are starred.

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Plum[/name] or [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Petal[/name] makes me smile.

Some lovely suggestions in here - I also thought of [name]Mauve[/name]. It’s both a color name and a fun twist on [name]Maeve[/name] - I think [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Mauve[/name] sounds quite pretty.

If you don’t mind sharing, why does hubs hate it? [name]Eva[/name] [name]Luella[/name] is beautiful and one of the rarer combinations on this site. You have your [name]Eva[/name] which is classic and then your [name]Luella[/name], which is whimsical.

P.S. [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Bluebell[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] Mulberry
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Dawn[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Minette[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Plum[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Pink[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] Luelle
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Noelle[/name]

Lately I’ve been liking Crocus as a MN. I’ve always loved that flower because it is the first one to bloom in spring and often it will come up through the snow. Idk if I’d ever be brave enough to use it, but it strikes me as very whimsical.

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Boheme[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Waverly[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Shea[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Romilly[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Novella[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Sonnet[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] Haiku (no totally kidding)
[name]Eleanor[/name] Felysse (prn fel-LEES)
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]True[/name]

I know an [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Aurora[/name].

I love the idea of the whimsical middle name to balance the serious first; great term for something I think a lot of parents want. And I have a suggestion for what may be the ultimate whimsical middle name, one I just added to the Nameberry database: Whimsey. I’m serious!

[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Rue[/name]

Loving [name]Rue[/name] as a mn right now!

[name]Poet[/name]
[name]Posey[/name]
[name]Skye[/name]

Wow thanks for all the suggestions. So many good ideas.

He has the usually weird reasons. Probably just because I like it so much haha. Originally his complaint was that [name]Eva[/name] was hitlers wife’s name. I know dumb.
