What do you think of Minnow for a girl? I’m drawn to names that are whimsical, but sometimes that borders on crazy and it’s hard for me to tell where the line is. Our last name starts with M and I think a little girl named Minnow M… would be adorable. It doesn’t seem too out there for an adult to wear Minnow either. What do you think?
I think it’s pretty comparable to [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] in terms of how ‘out there’ it is. While I tend to lean a little more traditional personally, I don’t really bat an eye at names like this (at least not in a negative way) - I think it’s very cute.
I actually quite like it!
Hmm… feels like a spiritual successor to [name_f]Willow[/name_f] (that’s a good thing.) And for fish, minnow are pretty cute.
I prefer [name_f]Meadow[/name_f].
I think it could work though it is closer to the crazy side. It fits good along the lines of the previously mentioned [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], and [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], along with [name_u]Marlow[/name_u]. And [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] would be a cute nn for her, especially if she ended up being embarrassed by her name somehow.
I kinda like it! It’s definitely uncommon/maybe a little out there, but I think it’s wearable. I wouldn’t use it myself, but if I met a Minnow, I think I would think it was sweet!
There’s a mommy blogger who named her daughter Minoux. I believe she pronounced it like Minnow.
Minnow is really cute! It fits right in with bird baby name trends such as [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] and [name_f]Lark[/name_f] and reminds me of [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] and [name_u]Marlow[/name_u]. I don’t think it’s crazy at all.
I love it !!!
Sorry but I don’t think it would age well especially for an adult woman, think attorney, CEO, or other professional public figure. I think it would be embarrassing for her to have to introduce herself as Minnow. It also conjures up an image of something tiny and if she were to be a taller or larger woman, it would seem awkward.
I really like it! You could even call her [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] sometimes for a pet name. It’s cute & very usable imo.
I’m not sure. One one hand I love it, it’s cute, it has a rather catchy and maybe even modern sound, I absolutely love word/nature/animal names.
But on the other hand, I do agree with the point a pp brought out about it being a tiny name. I instantly think of tiny little fish. And the nickname [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] only emphasizes the tininess!
The other drawback I don’t love is that it’s a fish. I love animal names, but I’d only use ones that I actually love and admire the animals themselves too. Like [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_m]Wolf[/name_m], [name_u]Eagle[/name_u] etc, I love not only the names and the imagery they give, but I love those animals and their symbolism. I feel no connection to fish. Thats just me tho, I like to have special meaning to the names I actually want to use.
So I do think it could work, I wouldn’t use it personally, and I’d suggest using it as a middle or a nickname (would be an adorable nickname for a little girl!), but yes it probably could work if you wanted it to.
honestly, with the title, i came prepared to say most likely crazy, but Minnow feels pretty wearable to me. It’s a nice sound, and while the tiny fish association may not ring pleasant to some people, it definitely fits in there with [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], and [name_f]Harlow[/name_f].
I seem to be a minority but I really dislike it. I can’t picture it working on a child older than 7, and I can’t see a teenager wanting to be named Minnow (as a teen myself, I’d hate it. Too hippy and cutesy for me). I don’t think the nickname [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] is much better in terms of being too cutesy. It’s just hard to wear. Sorry.
It is cute but I don’t think it grows well. As a nickname it would be amazing but probably only when she’s a kid. That being said, you never know; your daughter might absolutely love her name or nickname as Minnow. Use your intuition
I think [name_u]Mio[/name_u] or [name_f]Noa[/name_f] also work as NN options if she didn’t want to go by [name_f]Minnie[/name_f]/it didn’t really fit her.
No. It’s just cruel.
I think it’s very sweet, and very hippie. I like it enough to have it on my own GP list, but I wouldn’t use it as a first because I struggle to see a grown woman with the name, or even a child who is anything but tiny, sweet and a bit bohemian.
[name_f]Minna[/name_f] is just lovely though, and could be Minnow as an affectionate nickname.
Right or wrong, I can envision ppl not able to take a woman named Minnow seriously.
