I’m going through my boys list again and trying to make combos and I’ve realized that I am horrible at flow! What do you think of these combos, and any suggestions would be very helpful. Last name is [name]Emerson[/name].
I’m having a really hard time here… First name choices are [name]Omri[/name], [name]Felix[/name], [name]Apollo[/name], [name]Onyx[/name], [name]Morgan[/name], [name]River[/name], and possibly still [name]Asher[/name] but I am really worried about popularity. Middle choices right now are…
[name]Bay[/name]
[name]Lake[/name]
[name]Harbor[/name]
Venture
[name]Valor[/name]
[name]Vale[/name]
Obsidian (can’t seem to fit this one anywhere)
[name]August[/name]
[name]Joss[/name]
Pretty much trying to find something that fits and sounds cool, preferably something nature related or a word name. So confused…
I don’t put a lot of importance into flow of a name, but from what I can tell, you should probably consider having name combos with a different amount of syllables. For example [name]Asher[/name] [name]Felix[/name], [name]Felix[/name] [name]Harbor[/name], [name]Omri[/name] [name]August[/name] all have 2 syllables each. Your other combos like [name]Omri[/name] [name]Joss[/name] and [name]Felix[/name] [name]Bay[/name] flow better because the first name has two syllables while the second name only one. This would also go better with your last name since is has three syllables. 2-1-3 syllable combos sound better than 2-2-3.
Also certain names paired up together might not flow great because they actually sound like the name of a lake, bay or harbor. For example when I hear the name [name]Felix[/name] [name]Harbor[/name] or [name]Felix[/name] [name]Bay[/name], I would never think that it is a person’s name because it seems like you are actually referring to a harbor or a bay named [name]Felix[/name].
The ‘rules’ state you should try to have names of varying syllable count next to each other, and you shouldn’t place two stressed syllables next to each other. You achieved this with [name]Rowan[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Ferguson[/name] (2-1-3).
From your combinations, the ones that follow the ‘rules’ are [name]Omri[/name] [name]Joss[/name], [name]Felix[/name] [name]Bay[/name], [name]Onyx[/name] [name]Bay[/name], [name]Apollo[/name] [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] [name]Vale[/name].
So many of your first and middle name picks are 2-syllable. Are there any slightly longer names that interest you? It would open up a lot of possibilities.
That’s probably the issue, I usually like short names. 1-2 syllables. Longer names have a tendency to pick up nicknames and I despise nicknames. I guess in the middle, a longer name wouldn’t be that bad… The only longer boys name I like is [name]Benjamin[/name] but last time I checked, my husband dislikes it. Maybe in the middle he wouldn’t mind.
ooh, so many good names! I would go for [name]Apollo[/name] [name]Lake[/name] [name]Emerson[/name] or [name]Onyx[/name] Venture [name]Emerson[/name].
What about these nature names for middle:
[name]Hawthorn[/name]
Hypericon
[name]Moss[/name]
Oleander
Periwinkle
Pimpernel
Siderion
[name]Valerian[/name]
Frankincense
Evergreen
[name]Omri[/name] [name]Joss[/name] This one doesn’t do anything for me try [name]Geoffrey[/name] nn Joff, combo [name]Geoffrey[/name] [name]Victor[/name]
[name]Omri[/name] [name]August[/name] It has flow but [name]Omri[/name] is too [name]OTT[/name] for me
[name]Felix[/name] [name]Harbor[/name] I think this is too hard and soft in the one combo, but [name]Felix[/name] [name]Omri[/name] works
[name]Felix[/name] [name]Bay[/name] I like [name]Felix[/name] but to me [name]Bay[/name] is a girl’s name, so [name]Felix[/name] [name]Lane[/name]
[name]Omri[/name] [name]Morgan[/name]I love [name]Morgan[/name] for a boy!
[name]Apollo[/name] [name]Felix[/name] I find [name]Apollo[/name] too much name for me but the combo flows
[name]Onyx[/name] [name]Bay[/name]/[name]River[/name] ? It flows but I couldn’t use this one
[name]Asher[/name] [name]Vale[/name] Fantastic!!
[name]Asher[/name] [name]Felix[/name] Great!
Middle choices right now are…
[name]Bay[/name] Girly
[name]Lake[/name] Okay, like [name]Lane[/name] too
[name]Harbor[/name] Girly
Venture Not bad, prefer [name]Victor[/name]
[name]Valor[/name] Like
[name]Vale[/name] Like a lot
Obsidian (can’t seem to fit this one anywhere)No
[name]August[/name] I have to go against the popular vote on nameberry as I don’t like [name]August[/name] but like [name]Fergus[/name] for nn of [name]Gus[/name]
[name]Joss[/name] [name]Love[/name] [name]Joss[/name] as a nn for [name]Jocelyn[/name] (a girl) but think [name]Geoffrey[/name] nn Joff is Stunning!
I think [name]Vale[/name] [name]Emerson[/name] would be super cool, love it.
lol. I have the same issues. But, I think that @blade is correct.
I really like [name]Onyx[/name] [name]Bay[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] [name]Vale[/name].
I think the issue with Obsidian is that it’s so long and Obsidian [name]Emerson[/name] feels odd to me because of the strong O sound at the beginning of the name and the end. Also Obsidian and [name]Emerson[/name] are similar in length which might be another issue.
Btw I really like the short, nature/word names on your list as first names. I think they’re understated but very evocative and would pair well with [name]Rowan[/name], and with [name]Ferguson[/name].
I still really really love [name]Asher[/name] [name]Vale[/name]… But I also like [name]Felix[/name] [name]Bay[/name] next to [name]Rowan[/name] [name]Jane[/name]. =]
[name]Omri[/name] [name]Joss[/name]- [name]Joss[/name] is too harsh for me. I love [name]Omri[/name] [name]Jos[/name] or [name]Joos[/name] (both “Y”s”)
[name]Omri[/name] [name]August[/name]- [name]Both[/name] good names, but you have that little donkey sound in the middle of the name (“ee-aw”) plus the 2/2.
[name]Felix[/name] [name]Harbor[/name]- I know it’s 2/2, but I think [name]Harbor[/name] plays beautifully off of the Rs in [name]Emerson[/name]. Such positive meaning attached to this name.
[name]Felix[/name] [name]Bay[/name]- [name]Don[/name]'t like it as much as [name]Felix[/name] [name]Harbor[/name]. [name]Bay[/name] falls flat [name]IMO[/name]. [name]Harbor[/name] is warmer and carries the image of shelter and homecoming. I think [name]Felix[/name] [name]Harbor[/name] is wonderfully balanced because [name]Felix[/name] is such a joyful, outgoing name, and [name]Harbor[/name] is tender and more internal.
[name]Onyx[/name] [name]Bay[/name]- flow’s ok, but the image is pretty goth. Dark waters and all that… [name]Onyx[/name] [name]River[/name] makes me think of the [name]River[/name] Styx.
[name]Omri[/name] [name]Morgan[/name]- [name]Morgan[/name]'s NMS, despite its beautiful meaning. Next to [name]Omri[/name], I find it too bossy.
[name]Apollo[/name] [name]Felix[/name]- Two alpha-names side by side. Very manly. NMS. [name]Apollo[/name] [name]Helios[/name] was one of [name]Apollo[/name]'s original names- he was associated with the sun. I think [name]Apollo[/name] [name]Helios[/name] has pretty excellent flow. Hawks, Ravens, and Griffins were among the creatures sacred to him. [name]Apollo[/name] [name]Hawk[/name]? Still, a lot of name.
[name]Asher[/name] [name]Vale[/name]- Great.
[name]Asher[/name] [name]Felix[/name]- I’d prefer [name]Felix[/name] [name]Asher[/name]. That way, the -er rolls effortlessly into [name]Emerson[/name].
Thanks for your comments. I guess I never saw [name]Felix[/name] as a “alpha” name… or [name]Apollo[/name] for that matter. I still really love [name]Asher[/name] [name]Vale[/name] and I like [name]Felix[/name] [name]Asher[/name], but I’m starting to worry about the popularity of both. My husband likes [name]Asher[/name] a lot, and he also likes [name]Apollo[/name]…but he’s just “Eh” on [name]Felix[/name]. He thinks it sounds like a grandpa name. But he also doesn’t understand how much time and effort I put into names. He thinks since I’m not pregnant yet, why are we even talking about them? But I’m secretly freaking out that I have no “solid” prospects for the next child. With [name]Rowan[/name], I knew her name before she was even an idea. So we didn’t have to think about names that much. But for the next child, I am totally lost. I have long lists that change almost daily…and he doesn’t understand why it’s such a big deal to me. Maybe it will be a big deal for him too once I’m actually expecting, who knows.
Sorry for my picky post. You have many great names- [name]August[/name], [name]Harbor[/name], [name]Omri[/name], [name]Felix[/name], [name]Vale[/name], [name]Asher[/name]! And your last name is very handsome. You’ll find one that calls to you. I understand your anxiety. Maybe inspiration will strike from an unexpected source. Keep a few names in your back pocket and see what else comes your way.
If you didn’t already know: [name]Both[/name] [name]Asher[/name] and [name]Felix[/name] mean happiness. With [name]Asher[/name], I think of the beautiful ash tree. It’s interesting that rowan trees are sometimes called “mountain-ash” though they’re actually not of the same genus. I believe ashes are in the acacia family (one of my favorite girl/tree names.) [name]Linden[/name] is another one of my favorite tree names, and I’d only use it for a boy. You might look into the yew names as well. Some of them are so beautiful and they share some sound with [name]Rowan[/name]. [name]Owen[/name] is one of them, but there’s Ywen, Yvain, just Eo, and others… [name]Vale[/name] shares the A-sound and monosyllabism with [name]Jane[/name]. [name]Asher[/name] [name]Vale[/name] is quite parallel to [name]Rowan[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]IMO[/name].
