[name_f]Do[/name_f] you ever wonder why a name that used to be popular fell out of top 1000 (or just went down in popularity significantly and isn’t coming back) when you like the name and other similar names of that era did have a comeback?
For example [name_f]Dora[/name_f], which I think is a lovely name, but didn’t have a comeback like [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] etc.
Here you could post names that used to be popular but no longer are, and you don’t really see why.
[name_f]Erin[/name_f]. I get that done some people think its dated because they grew up with girls called [name_f]Erin[/name_f] but I grew up with people called [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]/[name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] and those names are still being commonly use now. I dont get it! If [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] aren’t dated then neither is [name_f]Erin[/name_f]. I’ve also had people tell me that [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] is dated!
[name_f]Doreen[/name_f]. It was my great [name_f]Nana[/name_f]'s name so I hope to use it as a middle to honour her but I can’t see what’s wrong with it or why it hasn’t made a comeback. After all, the same names are in the top 100 every year but they’re not seen as dated.
I’m rather surprised by [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] in the US! [name_f]Brianna[/name_f], [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] have barely left the top 100;
[name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], [name_f]Nicole[/name_f], [name_f]Michelle[/name_f], and [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] haven’t even left the top 300 names in the US as of yet;
[name_u]Kelly[/name_u], [name_f]Heather[/name_f], [name_f]Desiree[/name_f], [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] and [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u] are still clinging on in the top 1000, but the classic spelling of [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f] that debuted in the 80s is gone! I just find it interesting how “dated” names work!
I am surprised to see people refer to [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f], [name_f]Gloria[/name_f], [name_f]Justine[/name_f], and [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] as dated when I have never met anyone of any age with these names. I can’t even figure out what eras they are linked to and they seem to me like they would have a timeless appeal.
I’m kind of surprised [name_u]Robin[/name_u] hasn’t come back. I mean, oldies and nature names are apparently really big with parents right now so I figured it would be right up there with [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_m]Fox[/name_m], and [name_f]Flora[/name_f].
[name_m]Byron[/name_m] and [name_m]Elmer[/name_m], since sound-wise they seem to fit the trendy sounds that are current right now. Especially [name_m]Elmer[/name_m] - I just don’t think it can shake its ‘old man’ vibe yet.
I think we flip between modern and classic. Like we have a tradition with more vintage names then the next generation rebels and they use more modern names.
I honestly dont know why people have to make lists anyway.
Names are names. Who cares if theyre on a list. If aomeone likes a name they shoukd be able to use it without being like “oh its not in the top 100s anymore i dont want to use it”.
I see less and less people using the name dillion, i havent even heard of a dillion since i was in 5th grade.
