Why can't I just make a decision and stick with it!?!?

Some of you know that I had a lot of trouble getting my husband to talk about and agree to a girls name for this baby. When we decided on a name we agreed to [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] but now it just feels wrong. I talk to baby (I’m sure lots of pregnant women do it and I’m not crazy right? lol) when I do I test out the names we are planning on using. I call baby [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] or [name_m]Lance[/name_m] and I get butterflies and get excited about the name, when I say [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] I don’t get that anymore. I just feel blah about the name. I have always loved [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] names and I still think it’s a beautiful name but it just feels wrong.

I’m annoyed with myself about not loving the name anymore. I thought we have found “the name” but now I don’t think we have. My husband is just frustrated that I think it’s not right anymore as he feels like he only just adjusted to naming our baby [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]. Am I the only person who has had this problem? I feel like if I went with [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] I would regret it. So now I have to revisit my lists which are very short due to my husband excessive love of the veto.

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] (dislike the nn [name_f]Maddy[/name_f], are there any other possible nns?)
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Catie[/name_f] (yes with a C)
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] (My sister screwed her face up and said this name rated a 0/10 but I still like it)
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] (Doesn’t really work with a sister named [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f])

Middles:
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] (I love love this)
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] (this is new to the list, my husband suggested it! That never happens!)

I think I just need someone to tell me I’m not crazy, some advise and maybe suggestions on what I should do. I have no problem with taking a list of names to the hospital with me, but at the moment I’m not even sure about the names I listed here enough to write them on that list. It’s currently only got [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] for a boy, with out back up boys names.

People keep telling me we must be having a boy since we can’t choose and stick to a girls name but my gut feeling tells me it’s girl number 3. Then again maybe I’m just scared of having a boy because that’s totally unknown for me!

No one? Maybe I am crazy.

It can’t hurt to explore your other options or even maintain a list of options to choose from once you’ve met the new baby.

From your list (and with your other kids; especially love [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], btw), I love the sound of [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Mads[/name_m] for a nn? I’ve heard [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] pronounced with both the “line” ending and the “lin” ending; a friend whose name is [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] (lin), sometimes goes by [name_f]Linny[/name_f]. I’m not sure which pronunciation you have in mind though!

You’re not crazy. I do this too, I try calling my baby by the names on our list and if I don’t get excited - if I don’t feel it suits her, off it goes. It doesn’t matter how pretty the name is. For what it’s worth I think [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]'s beautiful. But I very much like both [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] on your list. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] could be [name_f]Lena[/name_f] or [name_f]Leni[/name_f]? Or maybe even [name_u]Malin[/name_u]? [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] would be beautiful with sisters [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f].

Good luck sweetie!!! Lots of hugs

[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] may share the “[name_f]Anna[/name_f]” name in them, but they don’t compete to me – especially if [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] ended up with one of my favorite nicknames ([name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] or [name_f]Sosie[/name_f]). [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is lovely.

Well I think [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is a very pretty name but you should not settle for a name that isn’t right for you.

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] - I love this name. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] are really pretty. NNs: [name_f]Addy[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_f]Della[/name_f], [name_f]Delly[/name_f], [name_f]Mallie[/name_f], [name_f]Linny[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Catie[/name_f] - I love it with the ‘C’. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is sweet. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is great too.
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and think [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] is an awesome nn. I like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f].
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] - I also have a daughter named [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] and I pretty much marked every ‘anna’ and ‘ella’ name off my list. [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is pretty but I don’t think it works.

If you are looking for other suggestions, what about…

Girls names (nickname options):
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] ([name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Maggie[/name_f])
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] ([name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u])
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ([name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Sosie[/name_f], [name_u]Jo[/name_u], Sephi)
[name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] ([name_u]Jackie[/name_u], [name_f]Kiki[/name_f])
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] ([name_f]Cordy[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f])
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] ([name_f]Tori[/name_f], [name_f]Ria[/name_f])
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] ([name_u]Penny[/name_u], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f])
[name_f]Georgina[/name_f] ([name_f]Gina[/name_f], [name_u]Georgi[/name_u], [name_f]Gigi[/name_f])
[name_f]Nicolette[/name_f] ([name_f]Lettie[/name_f], [name_m]Colie[/name_m])

I really like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], or the alternate form [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]. [name_f]Lena[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] and [name_u]Malin[/name_u] are my favorite nicknames. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] both sound very pretty next to your other two. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] also fits beautifully with the classic, regal girl theme.

I thought about [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] for myself at one point. It’s a double meaning, but I still find it pretty.

I apologize in advance for any errors, I’m currently typing this one handed while having a transfusion.

@[name_f]Freya[/name_f] - We pronounce is like mad-eh-len. I’m not sure I like how [name_m]Mads[/name_m] sounds with an Australian accents.

@[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Lena[/name_f]! Writing that one down. I like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] too. I’m so scared to say I love something though in case I change my mind… again!

@[name_f]Jeanne[/name_f] - That’s what my husband thinks to, which is why it has stayed on the list. I haven’t really thought about nn for [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]

@[name_f]Christabel[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Addy[/name_f] but my neices name is [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] nn [name_u]Abby[/name_u] so it’s to close for my liking. I like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] but it’s #1 here, plus it’s my other nieces name. I also like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], it’s been on and off our list a number of times!

@Shujayra - I think [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is the middle we will end up using. I really love it  I have a bad association with the name [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], although I do thnk it’s a lovely name, that association stops me from putting it on my list.
