We need a name for our third child. We are expecting a girl. My other daughters are named [name]Layla[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] and [name]Elyse[/name] [name]Rose[/name]. Our last name starts with an S. Any suggestion would be so appreciated. So far I like:
[name]Sloane[/name] [name]Julianna[/name] (i love this but I’m nervous about the negative connotations it has associated with it - [name]Sloane[/name] Rangers in the UK. And it doesn’t sound as feminine as my other daughters names, but I still love it )
ive never heard of that term but wikipedia says: “Initially the term “[name]Sloane[/name] [name]Ranger[/name]” was used mostly in reference to women, a particular archetype being [name]Diana[/name], [name]Princess[/name] of [name]Wales[/name].”
dont think [name]Diana[/name] is a negative connotation at all! i think the only similar situation in the US would be ‘[name]Valley[/name] Girl’ names that have a connotation of the snobby, rich girl from the 90’s lol, but even those names are coming around and getting a fresh start.
[name]Sloane[/name] is lovely, not a especially feminine sound, but on a girl is just exudes femininity somehow. paired with [name]Julianna[/name] it gives off a wonderful aura. some people dont like alliterating the first & last name, but sometimes it just works - i dont really mind it. S never seems to be one of the bad sing-songy alliterations.
plus i happen to think it fits well with [name]Layla[/name] and [name]Elyse[/name] rather well, which yes are more feminine, but not overtly. like [name]Sloane[/name] they are more coy and covert.
I think you should find a name containing a y as it links all the names together.although trying not to cross the fine line between acceptable spelling differences [like [name]Layla[/name]/[name]Leila[/name] etc.] and yooneek names.
We named our daughter [name]Sloane[/name] [name]Frances[/name] 4 1/2 years ago. When we chose the name, it was not in the SSA top 1,000 names. It has gradually increased over the past few years. I’m not sure where you live, but in the US, we receive nothing but the most positive compliments. It’s not uncommon for people’s reactions to be, “Wow, that’s a beautiful name; I’ve never heard that before.”
[name]Sloane[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] sounds nice, too. When selecting a middle name, I would suggest picking a softer sounding name to complement the strong one syllable emphasis of [name]Sloane[/name].
I don’t really have any suggestions. But [name]Sloane[/name] is a lovely name. It’s got just as much femininity as [name]Layla[/name] and [name]Elyse[/name], just in a different way. I think it’s a lovely choice, it’s great next to [name]Julianna[/name]. [name]Sloane[/name] [name]Julianna[/name]. That’s a pretty name. Very sophisticated and pretty. An excellent choice.
I think [name]Sloane[/name] is more unisex than [name]Layla[/name] and [name]Elyse[/name], so I’d try for something with more of a similar feel. I also like the Y as a way to tie the names together. Some possibilities:
[name]How[/name] about [name]Zoelie[/name]? I think [name]Zoelie[/name] would fit beautifully. [name]Layla[/name], [name]Elyse[/name], and [name]Zoelie[/name]. (Zoel-lee)
I’m concerned [name]Sloane[/name] with an S-last name might sound hissy or lispy. I personally wouldn’t use an S-first name with an S-last name. Most alliterative names don’t bother me at all (my daughter’s initials are M.M.), but S just doesn’t work for me.
I also agree with the comment above that another y name would link them visually, but definitely avoid anything too made-up.
[name]Sloane[/name] is awesome, I really like it. But I feel like [name]Sloane[/name] [name]Julianna[/name] doesn’t really flow when you say it out loud. What about [name]Sloane[/name] [name]Julia[/name] or [name]Sloane[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]/[name]Juliette[/name] instead? (I prefer [name]Juliet[/name]/ette, but I really like french names).
I think [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Rowena[/name], [name]Jasmine[/name] and [name]Daisy[/name] fit in nicely with your other daughters names! [name]Sloane[/name] is cute as well!
