[name_m]Hi[/name_m], berries! Please, tell me your honest thoughts on the name [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. I’m digging it but not 100% sure.
TIA!
I like it! Less common than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] but still recognisable. A pretty, whimsical [name_u]French[/name_u] name! The only thing is that it could be easily mistaken for its more well known variants but I think it is a gorgeous choice!
It has a romantic sound, it’s spunky and sweet.
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] sounds so sweet and I love the [name_u]French[/name_u] flair!
Love it! Not quite as popular as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] but just as lovely
Amelie is beautiful! It has flair and elegance
I love [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]! It’s very romantic and much more grounded than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] IMO
My grandma’s name is [name_f]Ama[/name_f] so I’m planning to use [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] as an honor name. I like the [name_u]French[/name_u] softness.
I grew up with a lot of Emilys so not a fan but i am intrigued [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is so close to [name_f]Emily[/name_f] but yet so different. It makes an entirely different sound. Such an upgrade in my opinion.
I dont care for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - I find it a mouthful to say.
I’m okay with [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] (even one letter difference and I love this way more than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] plus you can do the nn [name_f]Molly[/name_f]) and [name_f]Amalie[/name_f] but [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is just my favorite as a middle name which is how I would use it.
Honestly, the reason I don’t really like it is that it just doesn’t sound great in [name_f]English[/name_f], imo.
Well, I just figured out I’ve been mispronouncing it for years lol (I’ve said the first syllable like “aim”, and apparently it’s more like “am”). So I feel like a downside is that a) it’s apparently easy to confuse pronunciation b) I personally like the “aim” pronunciation better so if that’s not correct that’s a downside for me.
I also think I prefer both [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] anyway. ([name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_f]Amy[/name_f], which is more an echo of what I thought the pronunciation was.)
Amelie is nice. Though if hearing the name in person i would automatically spell it as [name_f]Emily[/name_f].
Amelia looks more complete to me and would get spelt the preferred way, imo.
I don’t care for it personally because it always tricks me on first read that it’s going to be [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] so I have to go back and reread it properly. I’d probably like it more if I were a [name_u]French[/name_u] speaker
I like [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], but have never committed to it because in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u] I worry it sounds like [name_f]Emily[/name_f] being said with a cold.
I think it’s lovely, though people pronouncing it different ways would be an issue.
I like it, and think it has a pretty sound. I do prefer [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Amy[/name_f], but that’s purely just because they’re more to my taste. I think [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is a pretty name that’s very usable, my one potential worry about the name is it would be mistaken frequently for [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], at least where I live in the northwestern United States.
Love it! [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is a new discovery of mine. I grew up with dozens of Emilys and always thought [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] was pronounced the same way, just a spelling variant. But when I first heard the actual pronunciation, I was blown away. It is absolutely beautiful! It is regal, elegant, sophisticated, but also sweet and spunky, in a way.
I like it because it sounds lovely, it’s chic and it looks really pretty written. I don’t like it because it gets mispronounced but most people in [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking countries & it bugs me to no end
I love it mostly because I’m a huge fan of Amélie (the musical and the movie), and it just sounds very sweet yet sophisticated to me. [name_f]My[/name_f] biggest hold up with it would be potential pronunciation issues and people mistaking the name for [name_f]Emily[/name_f] when they hear it.
LOVE Amélie! I had a very, very dear friend by this name who passed away about 9 years ago, and while I’d love to honor her, it still feels too raw, most days, to envision myself with a little Amélie in her honor. I would love to meet more Amélies, though; it’s a beautiful, beautiful name.
I think my love mostly stems from my own friend, but I love her daintiness and almost feels a bit faerie-like. I have a little Amélie [name_f]Claire[/name_f] in a novel I’m working on, and she’s the cutest–a little bit of an imp, but so affectionate and intelligent and thoughtful.
