Why dont I love it?

I am very into unique/different names! Surnames on girls, unisex names, unusual names- all of it. I like names that stand out and you dont hear a lot- but not crazy! So when I decided on charles for a mn for a girl it was no surprise. I am not doing that to be different though, I am set on it because my adorable, amazing man of a grandfather is named [name]Charles[/name] [name]Archer[/name]. We are using [name]Archer[/name] for a boy but I liked the idea of having [name]Charles[/name] for a girls mn with something feminine to balance it.

I have thought of
[name]Vivian[/name] (“vivi”) [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Lyla[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Layla[/name] [name]Charles[/name]

but i do not love any of them. I think it is probably because i plan on using it as a double barrel name but I know it will get shortened to just the first name occasionally and those names are just too common for me. Any suggestions?

I’m sorry, but I really dislike Charles as a middle name for a girl. I have a boys name as my middle name and I hate it! I hate my first name too, but because my middle name is a boys name I can’t go by that. I always feel really awkward telling people my middle name, because even though its a family name, its still a boy’s name and I have to explain it anytime people ask. I can’t even imagine the headache it would be to have my male middle name as a double barrel first name and having to explain it every single day of my life. I know you want it to be different but please consider that Charles is not different, it is a common boys name and giving it to your daughter as a second first name will not make her different, it will make her have to explain her name more often, and she will probably grow to hate it because of that.

Why not use Charlotte or Caroline as alternatives? They are both feminizations of Charles and sound so much better with the first names you have picked out. Personally, I think Vivian Charlotte, while maybe not as different as you like, looks really elegant and classy and she will love her name for being that way. I think Lyla Caroline and Layla Caroline sound beautiful and sweet, and while they may not be different, they are beautiful and personally I think the class and beauty of a name should come before popularity concerns.

If the names being too common is going to drive you crazy then I suggest these:
Arabella Charlotte
Lilia Charlotte
Vivienne Charlotte
Alessia Caroline
Bellamy Charlotte
Ellery Caroline
Amelie Charlotte
Honor Caroline
Livia Caroline
Arden Caroline
Holland Caroline
Holiday Charlotte
Ever Caroline
Lucia Charlotte
Waverly Charlotte
Quinn Caroline
Seren Charlotte
Tate/ Tatum Caroline
Briar Caroline
Winter Caroline
Stellan Charlotte
Evangeline Charlotte
Noelle Caroline
Madigan Charlotte
Emerson Caroline
Serena Charlotte
Rowan Caroline

I just wanted to clarify that I did not pick charles to be different, i picked it because I want to honor my grandfather but I dont like the name on boys. My twin sister has my dad’s middle name [name]Allen[/name], hers is spelled [name]Allyn[/name]. She LOVES it and when we were little she wanted to be called [name]Allyn[/name]. Partly because of her love for her “masculine” middle name, and my indifference to my “feminine” middle name [name]Alane[/name], it inspired me to use [name]Charles[/name] for a girl. On a boy I dont love [name]Allen[/name] either but on a girl i think it is so fun.

I’m really not a fan of boys names for girls, but if you are set on honoring your grandfather in this way, why not just name the baby [name]Charlie[/name]?
[name]Charlie[/name] [name]Kate[/name] is cute for a little girl.

I have a close cousin named charlie

[name]Do[/name] you not like any of the other names in your sig with [name]Charles[/name]?

I’m not fond of [name]Lyla[/name] or [name]Layla[/name] because they are two syllables and a bit of a mouthful on their own not to mention adding [name]Charles[/name].
I think [name]Vivi[/name] [name]Charles[/name] is the best from your list but I can’t tell you why it’s not doing it for you.

[name]Stella[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Charles[/name]

[name]Lyza[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Rena[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Willa[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Myla[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Vesta[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Tahlia[/name] [name]Charles[/name]

I know a little girl named [name]Charlie[/name] also, it’s your prerogative

[name]Mary[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Iona[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Lorna[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Leah[/name] [name]Charles[/name]

I agree with everyone else. Please don’t use [name]Charles[/name] on a girl! If you are going to honor your grandfather, why can’t you name your son after him and then name your daughter after someone else? [name]Do[/name] you need to name both your kids after him? What about your husband’s side of the family?

[name]Vivi[/name] [name]Charles[/name] is darling, but if youre not feeling it youre not feeling it.

Something different from [name]Vivian[/name] for [name]Vivi[/name]? [name]Vivica[/name], [name]Vivia[/name], [name]Vienna[/name]…?

[name]Vera[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Vita[/name] [name]Charles[/name]

[name]Leila[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Lida[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Lola[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Liza[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Lula[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Nora[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Lana[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Lena[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Amie[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Freya[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Izzy[/name]
[name]Tallulah[/name] [name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Lulu[/name]

I’m in the minority, but I actually love [name]Charles[/name] in your combos! I think its because [name]Charles[/name] could be a family surname too, which I like in the middle spot or second half of a double barrel. I agree that its smart to make sure you love the first name independently in case the second gets dropped.

I’m on the “[name]Do[/name] not use [name]Charles[/name] on a girl” boat. I get why your using it, I get the sentiment behind it, but I still don’t find it attractive at all. All the other alternative have been suggested to you, so I won’t go through that, but I really do feel like you should reconsider. Boys names on girls just don’t stand out anymore, either - it’s become so common place that it just doesn’t have the same luster that it used to. (And I used to like boys names for girls back in the day, so I get why it used to be appealing). Though I don’t think [name]Charlize[/name] has been suggested and I absolutely [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Charlize[/name]…

As for first names, maybe I can make some suggestions to you of some more unusual / uncommon names to look through?

[name]Zipporah[/name]
Kadri
Iscah
[name]Lilia[/name]
[name]Alaia[/name]
Lucelia
Vivelise
[name]Laelia[/name] / Lilaea (Lilaea IS legit, but it’s not very common at all, it’s also spelled Lilaia, but I think that may be pronounced [name]Lil[/name]-eye-ah)
Elinoa
[name]Signy[/name]

I would use a feminine form of [name]Charles[/name] like [name]Charlotte[/name]. I personally think [name]Charles[/name] on a girl is horrific at best. Sorry. [name]Vivian[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] would be beautiful.

I love [name]Vivi[/name] [name]Charles[/name]. What about [name]Violet[/name] [name]Charles[/name], nn [name]Vivi[/name]? I think the middle name is the perfect place to honor somebody. I would just use a very feminine first name if you go with [name]Charles[/name].

Other suggestions . . .

[name]Brenna[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Sunday[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Coralie[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Luella[/name] [name]Charles[/name]

Good luck!

My mother has a friend named [name]Mary[/name] [name]Charles[/name] Lastname and I’ve always loved it! She’s in her 60s or 70s, so obviously it has worked for her  I’m a huge fan of family names. [name]Even[/name] if they aren’t as traditional, they have huge meaning! I don’t know if [name]Mary[/name] would work for you, but [name]Mary[/name] [name]Charles[/name] is a cute combination.

I knew I recognized [name]Vivi[/name] [name]Charles[/name] from somewhere and it was one of my all time favorite nursery designs. Parenting, Baby Names, Celebrities, and Royal News | CafeMom.com
Also the name of an actress. So I think it’s doable, I just prefer [name]Charlie[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Carol[/name] or [name]Caroline[/name]. I also really like [name]Lila[/name] [name]Snow[/name] out of your signature, and [name]Stella[/name] [name]Charles[/name].
