Why is it frowned upon...

…To use the name [name_m]Quill[/name_m] for a girl? I think it’s a cute and quirky choice and much better than [name_f]Quilla[/name_f] or [name_f]Aquila[/name_f]. Does anyone agree with me? Or am I the only one? Please give me hope on this name!

[name_m]Quill[/name_m] is ok…kind of prickly, though. I like [name_m]Quest[/name_m] for either boy or girl.

I think it is perfectly fine, à la [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. It is a fairly unique name, so I don’t imagine many people have a preconceived notion of the gender in this day and age.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with [name_m]Quill[/name_m] on a girl. I personally prefer [name_m]Aquilla[/name_m] but [name_m]Quill[/name_m] works really well. Very cute.

I can see [name_m]Quill[/name_m] working on either a male or female - definitely not strictly male. I’m not too fond of it as a first myself, however, I like it as a middle name. It’d be a great middle for a child of a writer.

I don’t think it sways in favour of either gender, and I definitely don’t think people would be particularly shocked of horrified to see it on a girl. It’s a cool name, although it does remind me of Professor Quirrell from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m].

It is probably just a matter of preference. I don’t think there is anything wrong with [name_m]Quill[/name_m] for a girl, and I see it working for either a boy or girl.

I don’t have anything against it for a girl, nor have I seen anything against it for a girl - I just dislike it period, but it comes down to personal tastes.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it on a girl. I have a niece who is 16 named Quil. I can only imagine it on a girl since I already have an association for the name.
