This rule apply for some names… why people think more common names are better than geogeous old version just becasue they are more common.
For example…
[name]Claire[/name] is better than [name]Clara[/name] becasue [name]Claire[/name] is more common
[name]Elaine[/name] is better than [name]Elena[/name] because [name]Elaine[/name] is more common
[name]Helen[/name] is better than [name]Helena[/name] because [name]Helen[/name] is more common
[name]Carolina[/name] is better than [name]Karolina[/name], because I never heard of polish name [name]Karolina[/name]
[name]Millicent[/name] is better than [name]Melisende[/name] or [name]Melisande[/name], just because I never used to [name]Melisende[/name] or [name]Melisande[/name].
I mean… I know people hate popular respelling of names and to explaine this irracional hate they invented that ‘official version’ of some names are better then one version of which most people never heard.
But that cross the line. It’s ok to think respellings are bad, but it’s wrong to hate everything you didn’t heard of or hate everything you think it’s not wrothy name. People like [name]Allanah[/name] spelling. People like [name]Jayden[/name]. People like Gorgiana [name]Valentina[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]. People like Alyyvviah. That’s popular more and more. You can’t hate everythink you didn’t used to. There’s nothing wrong in it.
I like [name]Claire[/name] more than [name]Clara[/name] regardless of each one’s popularity, simply because I tend to favour names that don’t end in -a, and I like the crisp one-syllable [name]Claire[/name]. I also associate [name]Clara[/name] with the girl from [name]Heidi[/name], who I never liked as a character. Has nothing to do with thinking [name]Clara[/name] isn’t a real name - it’s just not one I’d use.
[name]Elaine[/name] is better than [name]Elena[/name] - Personally I don’t like either.
[name]Helen[/name] is better than [name]Helena[/name] - [name]Helen[/name] has fewer pronunciation issues as [name]Helena[/name] has multiple valid ones. But if anything, I suspect more people are using [name]Helena[/name] on babies than are using [name]Helen[/name], so I don’t quite see your point.
[name]Carolina[/name] is better than [name]Karolina[/name] - [name]Both[/name] are “real” names but I like the C.
[name]Millicent[/name] is better than [name]Melisende[/name] or [name]Melisande[/name] - I like Bellicent. There’s an old name no one likes. lol. [name]Do[/name] I win a prize?
People can hate whatever name they want to. It doesn’t mean they’d be mean to someone with the name. I personally like the name [name]Marigold[/name] - to my sister it’s a name for a dairy cow. Oh well? No harm, no foul. She’s allowed to dislike it, it’d be a boring old world if we all liked the same names.
And “people liking” names or them being popular doesn’t make them nice. I like some names that are “too popular” regardless of it not being trendy to like them; I dislike some popular names no matter if thousands of women think they sound exquisite, I don’t have to.
