What are your thoughts on [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m]? I’ve always been intrigued by it ever since [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] [name_u]Parker[/name_u] used it as a middle for her son, but it is quite quirky.
Would you use it as a standalone or only as a nickname for [name_m]William[/name_m], or other?
We also have a very Scottish last name, M@cKimmie, but I kind of like the ultra-Scotts vibe! The repeating -ie endings don’t bother me, I like that also. [name_m]Griff[/name_m] is high up on our list, and I think [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] and [name_m]Griff[/name_m] would be super cute brothers.
I don’t love [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m], personally. It reminds me of the words milk or milky.
That being said, I agree that [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] and [name_m]Griff[/name_m] would be adorable as brothers! I think it could be a cool, quirky-vintage choice for someone else- I just am not a personal fan.
I adore [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m], just plain [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m]. And if you find he lacks a sense of whimsy, he could always go by [name_m]Will[/name_m] or [name_m]William[/name_m].
I love [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m]! It’s so sweet and charming and I love how it has a literary vibe too! [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] and [name_m]Griff[/name_m] are the cutest
I love [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m], especially as a MN or nickname for [name_m]William[/name_m] and would be great with your last name! [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t know if you’re into mystery novels, but SJP used this name as a reference to the author [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] [name_u]Collins[/name_u]. The Woman in White is a spooky (maybe Victorian era?) mystery novel and it’s a great read.
I’m not a fan of just [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] as a standalone, but it’s useable as an unconventional nickname for [name_m]William[/name_m]. It does kind of sound like “milky” to me though.
There’s a family on Instagram with a son named [name_m]Willem[/name_m], called [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m]. For my personal taste it wouldn’t be quite substantial enough to be a standalone name, but I do like it as a nickname, with the potential brother [name_m]Griff[/name_m], and with your last name. One thing to note is that [name_m]William[/name_m] or [name_m]Willem[/name_m] M@cKimmie sounds similar to the president [name_m]William[/name_m] McKinley.
I like [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] although I’d probably use it as a nickname. It can work on its own though; there’s an Instagram influencer here in Australia with a son called [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m]. It’s sweet!
Edit: I quite like [name_m]Wilkes[/name_m] nn [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m]! It does make me think of [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Wilkes[/name_m] [name_m]Booth[/name_m] but I don’t think that’s really an issue.
Wilkie is too sweet/cutesy for me to personally consider as a standalone, though it’s long enough and stable enough to manage it, I think. I prefer it as a nickname for a [name_m]Wil[/name_m]- name of some kind.
Like [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] the author. He was called [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] but went by his middle name. It was from the surname of a close relative. I like the name but I think it works better as a nickname.
I love [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m]! I first came across it when reading [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] (t’s the name of a minor character) but I felt like it didn’t really work as a standalone and I wasn’t a fan of any of the long forms, so it didn’t make my list.
Now I can see it working alone though. If [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] can, why not [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m]? And I think that [name_m]Griff[/name_m] and [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] would make such cool brothers!
I read this and thought, “Did they mean the character, Winky?” But then I Googled it and see that there is a one-time mentioned [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m]. Interesting!!
I think [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] is a cute and spunky nickname ! And I certainly like it in the middle name spot! Personally it’s too brave for me in the first name spot but I could appreciate it for someone else . I really like
[name_m]Wilkinson[/name_m]
[name_m]William[/name_m]
And think [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] would have been a rad nickname for [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]
I like it. I love the soft, sweet, quirky Scots nicknames for boys, like [name_u]Christie[/name_u], [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], [name_u]Laurie[/name_u]. [name_m]Wilkie[/name_m] feels enough for a full name to me, and [name_m]Griff[/name_m] is awesome!
