Will he share my nickname?

[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] but I often just go by [name_u]Cass[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are trying for baby #3 and if it’s a boy we like the name [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. But I’m worried that his nickname will be shorted to [name_m]Cas[/name_m]. I’m not opposed to making it a middle name but I’m not sure what goes with [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. We typically like traditional or literary names (Caspian being from CS [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] [name_u]Prince[/name_u] Caspian). Also it’s a 3 syllable last name and so our last name. Does that clash?

Maybe he could be a CJ or an [name_m]Ian[/name_m]?

Alternatives:

[name_m]Zander[/name_m]
[name_m]Orson[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
[name_m]Dante[/name_m]
[name_u]Florian[/name_u]
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Rollo[/name_m]
[name_u]Kace[/name_u]
[name_u]Atlas[/name_u]
[name_u]Gus[/name_u]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_m]Lazarus[/name_m]
[name_m]Hank[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Sylvan[/name_m]
[name_u]Finnegan[/name_u]

I’ve seen people use [name_m]Cap[/name_m], [name_m]Kip[/name_m] or [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], maybe those could work?

First: welcome to NB! <3
Second: congrats on baby #3!
Third: I love [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] too

Unfortunately, I do think [name_m]Cas[/name_m] is the most natural nickname for him and he will likely be called that by at least a few. As for the 3 syllable-on-3 syllable thing, NB put out an article a while ago that explained have each name be a different length (2-3-1, 4-3-2, etc) is ideal but honestly I think the sounds in the names themselves also matter.

Suggestions on firsts for a [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] middle that are either traditional and/or literary:

[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_u]Milo[/name_u] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_m]Philip[/name_m] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_u]Rhett[/name_u] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_m]Roland[/name_m] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_m]Viktor[/name_m] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]

A few other names that are literary/traditional/similarly vibed to replace [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]:

[name_f]Shasta[/name_f], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Digory[/name_m], [name_m]Kirk[/name_m], [name_f]Rilian[/name_f] (all from Narnia)
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u], Bingley, [name_u]Bennet[/name_u], [name_u]Collins[/name_u] (Pride & Prejudice)
Other traditional names:

[name_m]Whittaker[/name_m]
[name_m]Xavier[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_u]William[/name_u]
[name_m]Ebenezer[/name_m]

I personally love [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m], [name_u]Milo[/name_u] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], and [name_m]Philip[/name_m] [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] if you end up wanting to keep [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] in the mix.

Hopeflly this helps!

I love [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] with the tie to his mama [name_u]Cass[/name_u]! There are so many [name_m]Jr[/name_m], thirds, etc out there that have the exact same name as their parent but find different nicknames to go by. I wouldn’t change a name you love because of a possible nickname.
Good luck !

He might be called [name_m]Cas[/name_m] by others - as in, outside of the family - but I feel like your family - who know you as [name_u]Cass[/name_u] - probably wouldn’t. Still, I feel like you might be able to avoid it if he knows you go by [name_u]Cass[/name_u], because then he’d probably correct people if they called him that (as in, he’d might not want to have the same name as you?)

You could try to enforce a different nickname - [name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_m]Cap[/name_m], [name_m]Kip[/name_m], [name_m]Cian[/name_m]?

[name_u]Or[/name_u], with the right middle, you might be able to do CJ?

In terms of first name + surname flow, I think it depends on the names, but it should be fine

I’ve met a [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] called Capi (cappy).

I definitely like the idea of a [name_u]Milo[/name_u] or [name_u]Bennet[/name_u]! Thank you. Something to consider!
