I’m 35 wks and we’ve been struggling with boys names since the beginning. I’ve loved [name]Wilbur[/name] for a while, with the nn [name]Wil[/name]
Or even [name]Billy[/name]. while I can imagine a baby and child called [name]Wilbur[/name] I’m not so sure about a teenager or young man! Wondering what others think. does anyone know a teenage [name]Wilbur[/name]? Also we are in Australia. I know 2 kids called Wilba/ [name]Wilbur[/name] in our town.
Well, I think of a pig when I think of [name]Wilbur[/name]…[name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name]. But, if it’s a name in use where you are and it doesn’t matter about the [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name] connection, I think it’s fine. I don’t think it’ll be hard to grow into it anymore than [name]William[/name] or [name]Willis[/name] or those other [name]Will[/name] names.
So go for it! [name]Wilbur[/name] [name]Jack[/name] is very handsome.
[name]Wilbur[/name]! What a fabulous name! I’ve never considered it before, but I think it’s a winner. It has a more common nickname option ([name]Wil[/name]), but the long form will be august, distinguished, and handsome on someone of any age. I say use it!
If you only call him [name]Will[/name]/[name]Billy[/name], then no one will know. People just assume all [name]Will[/name]'s are [name]William[/name]'s.
Many people don’t know that [name]Will[/name] [name]Smith[/name]'s name is [name]Willard[/name]. I went to school with a [name]Will[/name] that was actually [name]Wilson[/name]
I know a little boy named Willborough nn [name]Will[/name], and while it sounds a little like wheelbarrow, [name]IMO[/name], it’s definitely an alternative to [name]Wilbur[/name].
Thanks everyone! Yes, I’m aware of the pig association - every time I mention the name [name]Wilbur[/name] to my 3 year old he giggles and says “[name]Wilbur[/name]'s a pig!”. Still it doesn’t really bother me, he will make the name his own soon enough
[name]Wilbur[/name] is adorable. I have a character named [name]Wilbur[/name]; he’s an imaginative, energetic little guy with blond hair and blue eyes. His nickname is Wilbie. I read [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name] as a little kid, but still don’t associate the name with [name]Wilbur[/name] the pig. [name]Wilbur[/name] is a choice deserving of a second look.
I think of [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name] and Mr. [name]Ed[/name] (Willll-burrr). Can’t say I’m a fan as I can only picture it on an old farmer, not a little boy.
I think of [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name] too. Maybe with an accent in another country it would sound better. (As a side note: I once knew three brothers who’s mother decided all of her children were going to have not just W names, but [name]WIL[/name] names. [name]Wilson[/name], [name]William[/name] and [name]Wilbur[/name]…incredibly unfortunate combo if you ask me.)
I’m sure a cute baby could make it very cute, but he will have an association with a pig his entire life. When he tells people his name, they’ll say, “Like the pig from [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name]?” A noble character, but a pig none the less.
I like it. I can definitely imagine it on a child and a grown up. However, he might not love it when he’s a teenager, but he can always go by [name]Will[/name] then. Then again there’s going to be loads of children with vintagy names in his generation, so it might not seem so “old fashioned”. I really like it though, especially with the middle name [name]Jack[/name].
