[name]Hi[/name]! Would love your opinion! My husband and I love the name [name]Talia[/name] but I’m particular about it being pronounced tal-ya rather than tall-ya or ta-lee-uh. For a nickname we love [name]Tali[/name].
If you saw the name [name]Talia[/name], how would you think it was pronounced? The other name we love is [name]Delaney[/name] (more straight-forward), so would love your thoughts on both. Either way we’re thinking [name]Reese[/name]/[name]Rhys[/name] for the middle name.
[name]Talia[/name] is very pretty! I say it [name]TAL[/name]-yuh, I think. The “A” like in cat, map, or jacket. Then again, my little sister is [name]Natalie[/name] and I sometimes call her [name]Natalia[/name]/[name]Talia[/name]–it just seemed more instinctive. I’ve always heard [name]Natalia[/name] said like nah-[name]TAL[/name] (again, like the “A” in cat)-yuh, so it just makes sense to me. I love [name]Tali[/name] as a nn! My predominant nn for my sister is [name]Tallie[/name] (spelled this way), but I think they sound the same. So cute!
I like [name]Talia[/name] [name]Reese[/name] better than [name]Delaney[/name] [name]Reese[/name]–while I adore [name]Delaney[/name], [name]Delaney[/name] [name]Reese[/name] is just too many unisex names together for me. I think [name]Reese[/name] gives [name]Talia[/name] a more modern, streamlined feel to it.
Thank you, [name]Ash[/name]! [name]Glad[/name] you would pronounce [name]Talia[/name] the way we envision it - gives us hope! Very good point about [name]Delaney[/name] [name]Reese[/name] - hadn’t even thought of that. [name]Just[/name] liked that it was a one syllable middle name, so will definitely pick another MN if we go with [name]Delaney[/name]. Thx again!
I would say tal-ee-uh. If you want it said tal-ya, why not just spell it that way, Talya? I don’t think there would be any correcting people if spelled that way. Many of the ending in -ia can be said 2 ways, but it is very mild difference of -ee-a or -ya. I do think if you have a name like that, you should be okay with it being said both ways though. It is very annoying to hate one of the ways a name is said. I met someone named Sara that only goes by Sar-a and hates Sahr-ah. I have to say it was annoying to her and everyone else, since nobody ever got it right. I also knew someone named Nicole that didn’t like it said the normal way and honestly I couldn’t hear a different between the normal way and the way she wanted it said, but she would get very annoyed when people didn’t say it that way. I think it was more that she didn’t like the way her name was said with certain accents.
I say it “[name]TALLY[/name]-ah,” like tally marks, with an -ah sound at the end. I think this is such a lovely name. [name]Talia[/name] [name]Reece[/name] is very pretty. [name]Ash[/name] has some good points on [name]Delaney[/name] too.
Why not just spell it [name]Talya[/name]? I would definately say it correctly if it was spelled that way. With the -ia ending I would say both as most names with this do.
I like [name]Talia[/name], but I’d say it [name]Tah[/name]-[name]Lee[/name]-Uh. If you want [name]Tal[/name]-ya, I’d spell it [name]Talya[/name]. Or name her [name]Natalia[/name], and just call her [name]Talia[/name]/[name]Tali[/name].
I like [name]Talia[/name] [name]Reese[/name] over [name]Delaney[/name] [name]Reese[/name].
I would pronounce it [name]Tal[/name]-yuh, but honestly, even if someone says Ta-lee-uh, it will likely come out sounding pretty close to [name]Tal[/name]-yuh that it won’t even matter.
Maybe I’m weird but I feel like [name]Tal[/name]-ee-uh and [name]Tal[/name]-ya pretty much sound exactly the same. Maybe the second one sounds like someone saying it a little faster, but that’s about it. This is my best friend’s name so I’ve been saying and hearing her name for many years and I can’t notice much of a difference. The only two pronunciations that sound different to me are Tuh-leah or [name]Tahl[/name]-ya. I very much prefer [name]Talia[/name] over [name]Delaney[/name] and I wouldn’t worry about the pronunciation. I don’t see it being a problem. My daughter’s name is [name]Celia[/name] and I don’t notice any difference between people saying “Cel-ee-uh” or “Cel-ya”. Anyway, I’m rambling, but I love the name [name]Talia[/name] and I think you should stick with it and definitely don’t alter the spelling.
Okay, I just reread your post and now I’m thinking maybe I was reading your pronunciations wrong? haha…I thought you were saying you were worried about people saying [name]Tal[/name]-ee-uh (3 syllables) instead of [name]Tal[/name]-ya (2 syllables), but now I’m thinking you meant you didn’t want them saying Tuh-[name]LEAH[/name]. I guess I’m not good at reading pronunciations, so just ignore my last comment if I am [name]WAY[/name] off. But I still stand by loving the name and not changing the spelling
The last syllable of my name is -lia and it’s pronounced lee-ah, but I it’s barely noticeable if someone pronounces it l-yah. Overall I don’t think it would be a big deal. She probably won’t really notice, and if she does, I doubt she’d care too much about correcting people. I would probably pronounce it [name]Tal[/name]-ee-ah if I saw it though.
