Will others swoon over this sib set as much as i do?

I love both [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] and [name_m]Noble[/name_m], but have mostly kept them as options for middles. But the blog post about boy virtue names included both and makes them seem more useable than i had previously thought.

Is it too much?

It is very Puritan. I think a virtue name theme for middle names would be cool though.

[name_f]Love[/name_f] them as middle names and they both have a great feel to them but it might come off as very puritan, for sure.
The thing that holds me back from using virtue names is that it can kind of give off the opposite effect of the names and sound more… Hmm, pompous? Than virtuous. I mean that kindly, as I also love these names (constant and prosper, as well as true and loyal were ones that I swooned over in that column), but they can seem a bit overbearing. That’s why I love them in the middle name, they offer some sense of dignity and importance without declaring it in lights.

<3 Prosper & Noble! But unfortunately the previous responders have a point about it coming across as pretentious. Also, in my experience adjective names often lead to the opposite effect in their holders, maybe it’s just too high of a standard?

However, I think this would be a perfect middle name duo no matter what your style:

Timothy Noble & Matthew Prosper (biblical)
Henry Prosper & William Noble (traditional)
Hugo Noble & Milo Prosper (trendy O endings)
Forest Prosper & River Noble (nature)
Cody Noble & Jesse Prosper (cowboy)

well, you get the idea!

Definitely too much. [name_m]Noble[/name_m] and [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] are common, everyday words. It’s not even on the nose; it’s slap you in the face. If you must use a combo of virtue names then choose one that isn’t so obvious like:
[name_u]Halcyon[/name_u] & [name_m]Noble[/name_m]
[name_m]Prosper[/name_m] & Solace
[name_f]Winsome[/name_f] & [name_m]Prosper[/name_m]
[name_m]Noble[/name_m] & [name_f]Dulcet[/name_f]

Definitely too much as first names, both separately and especially together as siblings. I love the idea of a virtue name as a middle though.

I think they would be too theme-y for first names but they would make quirky middle names. Using them as mn choices would give siblings a more subtle connection. Using them as first names hits people over the head with virtues. We are all too human and don’t like to be reminded of our own failings.

Oh how I adore both of those names. Sadly though, I do agree with the others. It’s upsetting that girls can get away with virtue names quicker than boys can. Living in the south, I meet many siblings named [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Faith[/name_f] and [name_f]Hope[/name_f]. While I think they sound like overkill as well, it is a pretty acceptable thing around here.

I read a book when I was younger with brothers named [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] and [name_m]Beau[/name_m]. I have loved [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] ever since. (And I wish I could remember that book!)

Maybe mix it up a little with one as a middle.

[name_m]Prosper[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Noble[/name_m]. Something like that.

I’m with you, @amelia, I love both these virtue names too (I’m actually surprised at all the posters with love for them since every time I mention them I get a lot of negative responses). They are a bit much together for first names of brothers but as middles I think they’d be gorgeous, or like a PP suggested, one first and one middle. [name_f]Love[/name_f] that idea.

[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Noble[/name_m] &[name_m]Milo[/name_m][name_m]Prosper[/name_m] (trendy O endings)
[name_m]Forest[/name_m] [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] & [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Noble[/name_m] (nature)

like @ruolan"s suggestion! So cute!

Alwaysben, its The Thief [name_m]Lord[/name_m]!! At least, I’m pretty sure that’s the book you’re looking for; that’s the book that made me fall in love with [name_m]Prosper[/name_m]!

Thanks for the answers, everyone.

Is the general consensus that one virtue name is ok, but two or more is a bit arrogant/obnoxious/preachy?

And if so, what names go along with [name_m]Prosper[/name_m]?

I love pp’s suggestion of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] & [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Noble[/name_m] or [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Noble[/name_m] & [name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Prosper[/name_m]*(aside from [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], all those names are on my favorites list)

Would [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] work together?

I think that [name_m]Noble[/name_m], even as a virtue name, could be used without much trouble. It is strong and is name-like. It sort of reminds me of [name_u]Noel[/name_u] and [name_m]Abel[/name_m]. However, [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] is a little odd in comparison. I personally liked the suggestion of Honest, which has a nice sound. Unfortunately, I’m not sure it is anymore useable than [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] for the reasons others have mentioned.

I like [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] very much. [name_m]Prosper[/name_m] and [name_m]Noble[/name_m] seemed a bit matchy, but mixing a virtue named sibling with a non-virtue named sib helps tone down as stuffiness or self-importance. If I read one virtue name it doesn’t necessarily seem like a virtue name, but the two together make it much more obvious. Same thing with other matchy sets - mythology names like [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] and [name_m]Apollo[/name_m], flower names like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f], gem names like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], etc. Together they seem over the top, but one on its own doesn’t faze me.

[name_m]Prosper[/name_m] _________ & [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Noble[/name_m] is a handsome sounding set!
