I’m wavering on our name choice with just a few weeks to go. We were planning to call our second daughter [name_f]Lula[/name_f]. [name_m]Will[/name_m] she hate us when she’s older? [name_m]Will[/name_m] it age well? I really do love the name and our older daughter is already calling my bump “[name_u]Baby[/name_u] [name_f]Lula[/name_f].”
We really want something fun and unique. I love the vintage quality of the name and the “[name_f]Lu[/name_f]” nn, but part of my wants something more elegant. Or maybe second guessing is normal?
Other names we’ve considered are [name_f]Ada[/name_f] (though I really worry its too popular, so we crossed it off), [name_f]Eira[/name_f], and [name_u]Asa[/name_u].
Other names that just now come to mind: [name_f]Acadia[/name_f], [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] ([name_f]Pia[/name_f] for nn), [name_f]Nova[/name_f], [name_f]Nola[/name_f]. I also love [name_f]Luna[/name_f] but it’s getting so popular!
I like the name [name_f]Lula[/name_f], it sounds pretty. I think the name will age well, it’s a name that I think could see her through to adulthood, and she would have the option of the nn [name_f]Lu[/name_f]
For me, [name_f]Lula[/name_f] is too much like [name_f]Lola[/name_f] which reminds me of the song Copacabana…“her name was [name_f]Lola[/name_f], she was a showgirl”. It also just has a connotation for me that brings images to mind of a lady of the night type person.
What about [name_f]Lilah[/name_f]? similar in sound but [name_f]Lu[/name_f] as a nn wouldn’t work. I think this one is getting a bit too popular though.
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]? could use [name_f]Lu[/name_f] as a nn. I like either pronunciation - Loo-see-ah or Loo-sha.
I highly doudt that she would hate you [name_f]Lula[/name_f] is a very sweet name , although i prefer it as a nickname for [name_f]Elula[/name_f] . [name_f]Lula[/name_f] [name_f]Marite[/name_f] is beautiful .Also i think [name_f]Eira[/name_f] is an absolutly beautiful name .
I knew a [name_f]Lula[/name_f] growing up. She was a VERY odd person, but I never thought anything weird about her name. I love the nn [name_f]Lu[/name_f]! I don’t love [name_f]Lula[/name_f], but I don’t think she’d hate you.
I dont think shed hate you at all! I think [name_f]Lula[/name_f] is very cute! I do second the suggestion of [name_f]Luella[/name_f] if you want something more formal sounding.
I have a niece named [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] … she’s still a baby, but her mom has only heard one negative comment to her face. [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] sounds “younger” than [name_f]Lula[/name_f], so I’m inclined to say you’d be OK. There are tons of names [name_f]Lula[/name_f] could be short for if you are nervous about putting it on the birth certificate. I think with the popularity of [name_f]Lyla[/name_f], [name_f]Layla[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], etc, she’ll feel like she fits in even though her exact name will be uncommon.
I think [name_f]Lula[/name_f] is fine, she won’t hate you. I triple (or quadruple?) the suggestion of [name_f]Luella[/name_f]! SOOO pretty! And the nn [name_f]Lula[/name_f] or [name_f]Lu[/name_f] comes so naturally!
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] is not very popular in the US…[name_f]Lula[/name_f] might even be more popular! Personally Id probably choose another [name_f]Lu[/name_f]- name or [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] and use [name_f]Lula[/name_f] as a nn, as it is quite cutesy and nn and [name_f]IMO[/name_f] doesn’t age that well (definitely not terribly), but I don’t think most girls would “hate” having the name [name_f]Lula[/name_f].
I think [name_u]Lou[/name_u]/[name_f]Lu[/name_f] names can carry the nn [name_f]Lula[/name_f] ok…[name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Luetta[/name_f], etc.
My neice is named [name_f]Lula[/name_f], and at first we all thought it was…well…a dumb name. But as soon as we started associating the name with the precious baby (which took about 2 seconds) we all fell in love with it. I can’t imagine her being named anything else. She’s 4 now, and I havent seen too many people give her strange looks or make comments about her name. It fits her personality perfectly. We call her [name_f]Lu[/name_f] all the time. It is definitely more of a ‘risky’ name, but it is really a beautiful one.
I like [name_f]Lula[/name_f] and I love [name_f]Lu[/name_f] . . . If it were up to me I would probably opt for a longer formal name, because I tend to like longer formal names with lots of nickname options, but I think [name_f]Lula[/name_f] works as a standalone name, and I wouldn’t say that about every name.
[name_f]Lula[/name_f] [name_f]Marite[/name_f] is lovely! Stick with what you love.
If you really get anxious about it, pick a name that keeps [name_f]Lula[/name_f] as an nickname. Something like [name_f]Luella[/name_f], [name_f]Ludmila[/name_f], [name_f]Lucilla[/name_f] have the [name_f]Lu[/name_f]-la built right in. [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is where [name_f]Lula[/name_f] comes from, but [name_f]Lula[/name_f] is far livelier than [name_f]Louise[/name_f] right now. [name_f]Luana[/name_f] is the only other one that I can think of which has almost as much sparkle as [name_f]Lula[/name_f]… and of course the lovely [name_f]Luned[/name_f] might work too.
Still, if I were you, I would stick with [name_f]Lula[/name_f].
I would personally pick a more classic name like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], and then use [name_f]Lula[/name_f] or [name_f]Lu[/name_f] as a nickname.
