I love the name [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] for our second boy, but I see it picking up steam. While I don’t think it’s trendy, I’m not sure I like the idea of it becoming too popular.

I really don’t think so. I’ve only ever met one.
We can’t honestly determine the popularity of a name, or lack of it. A new film could come out with a character called [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], a new music artist could come on the scene called [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], anything like that could happen and the name could sky rocket… Or something bad could become associated with the name and it could disappear off the top baby boy names.
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m] is a lovely Hebrew name which isn’t trendy and which is sturdy and beyond usable, so go for it. It could get popular, yes, or its popularity could diminish; if you love it, use it.
I can see it maybe trending, but not at this point. It’s kind of like how [name_u]Noah[/name_u] wasn’t that popular of a name, and now it’s like every other boy has that name! It’s hard to predict.
With the burgeoning popularity of [name_u]Noah[/name_u] and [name_u]Micah[/name_u] and other old-fashioned, Biblical names I can see it getting a boost.
Agree with above poster it’s got the same qualities and appeal of [name_u]Micha[/name_u] and [name_u]Noah[/name_u] which soared up in the past few years. So I think it might be a bit more popular. But my gut feeling is its not going to be as prevalent as [name_u]Noah[/name_u]. But who knows.
I wouldn’t let that stop you from using it. It’s impossible to really predict name popularity trends. It’s such a handsome name.
