Putting aside the question of whether either would be mistaken for another name, knowing how many syllables the surname has could make a big difference to me as to which I like better!
That said, either [name_f]Willa[/name_f] or [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] could be mistaken for other names - [name_f]Willow[/name_f] or [name_f]Camille[/name_f] come to mind first. Both [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] are well established names with long histories of use, and neither [name_f]Willow[/name_f] nor [name_f]Camille[/name_f] is SO popular (like, top 10 or even top 100) that I would imagine there would be two of them per classroom and then your [name_f]Willa[/name_f] or [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] (as I could see being the case for girls named [name_f]Livia[/name_f] now, with potentially a couple of Olivias in each classroom) so I vote that you use whichever you want. Sure, sometimes either might be mistaken for another name, but many names have inherent issues like those - no one ever spells them correctly, or everyone is inclined to use a nickname you don’t like, or what have you.
I vote [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. If [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] were [name_f]Camille[/name_f], that would get my vote.
I prefer [name_f]Camilla[/name_f]. [name_f]Willa[/name_f] always has sounded a bit too frilly/young for me. [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] has great nicknames too like [name_u]Cam[/name_u] or [name_f]Cami[/name_f].
Agreed! That being said, though, [name_f]Camila[/name_f] is in the top 50, so even though [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Camille[/name_f] are relatively unpopular, apparently [name_f]Camila[/name_f] is. I’ve not really come across that many, but I figure it might be something you’d want to know, especially since [name_f]Camila[/name_f] and [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] are said differently (MEE-lah vs. MILL-ah).
I agree with @oregano, though–go with whichever one you prefer. Most names are like that, and we all have grievances with our own names at some time or the other–lol, I can’t stand when my name gets spelled [name_f]Ashely[/name_f]!–but [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] are familiar in their own right, and not as unusual as [name_f]Kirsty[/name_f] is. I mean, [name_u]Christy[/name_u]/[name_f]Christi[/name_f]/[name_f]Kristi[/name_f]/[name_f]Kristy[/name_f] was everywhere for a couple decades, while [name_f]Kirsten[/name_f]/[name_f]Kiersten[/name_f] was a lot less than that. And on top of that, there were several popular [name_f]Kristi[/name_f] names ([name_f]Kristin[/name_f]/[name_f]Kristen[/name_f], [name_f]Christina[/name_f], [name_f]Christine[/name_f], etc.), so I think [name_f]Kirsty[/name_f] was just dwarfed by [name_f]Kristi[/name_f] and clan. [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], [name_f]Camille[/name_f], etc.–none of them are that rampantly popular, and while I connect [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] to [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_f]Camille[/name_f]/[name_f]Camila[/name_f], I wouldn’t automatically see [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and think, “Oh, they meant [name_f]Willow[/name_f].” I think you’re probably safe with either one. I mean, you might have to do some correcting at first, but both names are sort of coming into style, so I assume they’ll be pretty familiar. [name_f]Willa[/name_f] Cather and [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_u]Parker[/name_u]-Bowles are fairly familiar … figures? I was going to say namesakes, but I’m not sure how many people would want to name their daughters after [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_u]Parker[/name_u]-Bowles, haha. So I wouldn’t be too worried.
I prefer [name_f]Camille[/name_f] to [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] and that can cause confusion if you are worried about that. I don’t see anyone confusing [name_f]Willa[/name_f] for [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. That would be a non issue for me.
thank you everyone your suggestions are most helpful. Perhaps it was just a hormonal melt down and my first choice of [name_f]Willa[/name_f] is fine. ”
Probably should of mentioned the last name is two syllables sounds like [name_f]Janey[/name_f]. Oh and I live in Australia where [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is in the top 30 (hence my sudden worry). I also would use [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] for MILL-A pronunciation. DH has suggested to keep both and see what suits when baby arrives! (Hey it might be a boy!)
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is so pretty. I’m not a fan of [name_f]Willa[/name_f] or [name_f]Willow[/name_f], or ‘W’ names generally.
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] was my vote. I’ve never really liked [name_f]Willa[/name_f] as it reminds me to [name_m]William[/name_m]. [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] also has nicknames like [name_u]Cam[/name_u], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], or possibly [name_f]Caia[/name_f].
My personal preference would be [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] but I voted for [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] because it seems that you love [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] more and [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] is just a second best for you because of your concerns about people mistaking [name_f]Willa[/name_f] for [name_f]Willow[/name_f]…so I think you should cast your jitters aside and stick with [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u].
I love both [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], but I prefer [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] as a whole. I don’t think [name_f]Willa[/name_f] will forever be mistaken for [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. Besides, [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] could also be mispronounced… Stick with your gut! [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] is gorgeous!
I love [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] is adorable. But go with your heart.
They’re both very pretty. You can’t go wrong!
