I have a few name rules for myself, one of which is that I do not want to re-use the same ending syllable for my children’s names. I may bend on this eventually, but I am pretty sure I would not want to use the same ending with the same syllable count. In other words, [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] and [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] might end up being okay, but [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] will probably not be okay with me.
With that in mind, I am hoping to get opinions on the following four names:
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Della[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] (prn. veh-ra)
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
Since I will likely never use any of them together, I will eventually need to decide which name I like the best. If you could share your thoughts on each name (impressions, strengths, weaknesses, imagery, whatever you want really!) and rank them in order of preference that would be wonderful! I just want to get a flavor for the different opinions on the names.
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]: this one is my favorite! It’s very sweet and Southern. I just generally love state names, though. ([name_f]Alaska[/name_f], [name_f]Virginia[/name_f]…) It also has some cute similar names in the feminization of [name_m]George[/name_m] like [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f].
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]: V is my favorite initial after Z, I believe. I love the energy that V names give off (if that makes any sense.)
I don’t particularly like [name_f]Willa[/name_f] or [name_f]Della[/name_f]. They’re very old and musty to me. I can definitely see the appeal and why other people would like them, but I can’t shake the “moth balls” association. Lol
I love [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. [name_f]Willa[/name_f] is sweet and very beautiful. [name_f]Willa[/name_f] is by far my favorite from the list. The others in order would be [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], and [name_f]Della[/name_f].
1 [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] - a spunky girl who turns into a strong and sassy woman. [name_f]My[/name_f] kind of gal!
2 [name_f]Willa[/name_f] - a sweet and vintage charmer with a literary pedigree.
3 [name_f]Vera[/name_f] - love the meaning and it’s simple beauty.
4 [name_f]Della[/name_f] - I’m not a big fan of “ella” names in general and this one looks incomplete to me.
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]: Sturdy and reliable, yet free spirited. I have really grown to love this name.
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]: Naturally quite southern, but I think this one could easily fit any personality.
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]: I too would initially say it [name_f]Veera[/name_f], but I don’t think it’s a problem. It’s a simple correction. I am not a huge fan of this name. I do think your pronunciation lightens what I perceive to be a severe name.
[name_f]Della[/name_f]: Not feeling this one. It does feel unfinished, as others said. And I dislike the “del” aspect of it.
I really appreciate all this feedback. You Berries are the best!
Looks like [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] is more universally liked while [name_f]Willa[/name_f] is a bit more polarizing. It’s a love it or hate it kind of name, I guess.
@aym: That is such a lovely description of [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. Definitely going in my name file. =)
I like [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], and [name_f]Willa[/name_f]…I think in that order, although they are all fairly close. I like that [name_f]Vera[/name_f] feels a bit exotic, and both [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] have a lot of spunk. [name_f]Willa[/name_f] is very pretty, but a bit soft for me…missing that edge. And [name_f]Della[/name_f] is interesting, but I just don’t love the sound. Which is strange maybe since [name_f]Stella[/name_f] is one of my favorites? I like [name_f]Delia[/name_f], and better yet [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], much more.
I love all this feedback! @emsky: It is cool that you think [name_f]Vera[/name_f] is both spunky and exotic. I had not thought of it that way, but I think it is a big part of why I like it.
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] - strong, feminine, striking name with luscious imagery
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] - I imagine a very gentle, loving, strong, Southern woman
[name_f]Della[/name_f] - I know the elle/ella names are everywhere, but I really like [name_f]Della[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] - this is what my dad named his GPS, and we’ve got too many family jokes about old [name_f]Vera[/name_f] for me to take this seriously as a name
