[name]Hi[/name] everyone, I’m new to the boards but have been enjoying reading your posts. We just found out we’re having a boy and are having an incredibly hard time picking a name that is both classic/sturdy but not too popular. Our daughter is [name]Willa[/name].
We had more girl names that we loved on our list (for reference we had [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Julianne[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] at the top of our list). However, while we like a handful of boy names, none of them are flawless.
Here’s our list:

What perfect name are we missing? Would you worry about [name]Ennis[/name] or just go for it? Are [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] really as popular as they seem? Thanks in advance!
I haven’t met ANY baby/young [name]Charles[/name] in at least 10 years, so I don’t think it’s too popular, but may come across as slightly dated, even though I think it’s classic enough that it won’t be an issue.
[name]Henry[/name] is definitely gained in popularity, but it’s still unlikely a little [name]Henry[/name] would be one of multiple [name]Henry[/name]'s in a class or something.
[name]Ennis[/name] - I wouldn’t jump to Eenis. That doesn’t seem any more likely than a little [name]Dennis[/name] getting anatomy jokes made.
[name]Nicholas[/name] is still super popular, moreso than [name]Charles[/name] or [name]Henry[/name].
[name]Walter[/name]'s cool! I don’t think [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Walter[/name] is too cutesy but I don’t love matching sibling initials.
[name]Lewis[/name] - I don’t think of this as nerdy at all, and it’s my favorite on your list by far! It goes so well with [name]Willa[/name].
My fav from your list is [name]Walter[/name]! I guess the question is do you mind them having the same first initial? I also really like [name]Charles[/name] and don’t find it popular really. Yes, [name]Henry[/name] is pretty popular and [name]Ennis[/name] has too much teasing potential.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Willa[/name]! Out of your choices I like [name]Henry[/name], I think [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] make a fabulous sibling set.
I would have some concerns about [name]Ennis[/name], but then children will find something or other to make fun of another about. I have never met someone with [name]Henry[/name] as a first name, know a couple of people with [name]Henry[/name] as a middle. I know one [name]Charles[/name] ([name]Charlie[/name]) and know one person with a middle name of [name]Charles[/name].
I was going to say I really like [name]Ennis[/name] but if you worry about the teasing potential have you considered Enno instead?
Though with both [name]Ennis[/name] and Enno would you be inadvertanly starting a trend? Short names with a double consonant?
What would potential baby #3 be? [name]Pippa[/name]? [name]Collin[/name]?
[name]Just[/name] do to this fact alone I’d choose [name]Lewis[/name] or [name]Henry[/name] from your list.
Other suggestions: [name]Felix[/name], [name]Elias[/name], [name]Theo[/name], and [name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Ennis[/name] - [name]Haven[/name]'t heard this in ages but I do like it. NEVER would have thought of EEnnis pronunciation. Really nice with [name]Willa[/name]!
[name]Henry[/name] - [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] sound good together. And [name]Henry[/name] is a classic.
[name]Lewis[/name] - Like the name better with the spelling [name]Louis[/name]. I think its due for a revival!
I do love the name [name]Charles[/name] but don’t know any [name]Charles[/name] nicknames I like. I do like [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Willa[/name] together though.
I can’t actually imagine problems with [name]Ennis[/name]. If you love it, use it.
Otherwise, my favorite from your list is [name]Louis[/name] (spelled that way, not [name]Lewis[/name]). [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Louis[/name]–both nice strong classic Germanic names.
Thank you all so much for your replies! It’s so helpful to hear your thoughts. I agree that the [name]Willa[/name]/[name]Henry[/name] combo is compelling! I’m glad to know most of you didn’t go to a bad place with [name]Ennis[/name]!
I wouldn’t do [name]Ennis[/name]. I do love [name]Henry[/name] and I adore [name]Nicholas[/name]. [name]Nico[/name] as a nn is unique where I love, and I really, really like this option. [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Nico[/name], [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Henry[/name]. You can’t go wrong…although my heart is totally swooning for [name]Nico[/name]!
My favorite from your list is [name]Lewis[/name], spelled this way (obviosly i’m in the minority there though) but I also love [name]Charles[/name] (I’ve not met a young charles and I’m often around kids so I don’t think this is too popular) and [name]Walter[/name] (my gpa’s name <3 )
From your list I like [name]Henry[/name] best. Not a fan of [name]Ennis[/name] but I believe in going with the name that feels right for you no matter other’s opinions.
Some other suggestions you may like are [name]Julian[/name], [name]Jonas[/name], [name]James[/name]/[name]Jameson[/name], [name]Thomas[/name], [name]Tobias[/name], [name]Mathias[/name], [name]Elias[/name], [name]Ellis[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Harrison[/name] (nn [name]Harry[/name]), [name]Ian[/name], [name]Leo[/name], [name]Niles[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]Noble[/name], [name]Victor[/name], [name]Oliver[/name].
