I’m having the hardest time choosing between [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_u]Asher[/name_u] for our second son due in [name_f]April[/name_f]. Middle name will be [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]. We have a 2yo named [name_u]James[/name_u].
Which do you prefer: [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] or [name_u]Asher[/name_u] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]? Any thoughts are welcomed!
Definitely [name_u]Asher[/name_u] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]! [name_u]Asher[/name_u] and [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] both feel playful to me, while [name_m]William[/name_m] feels more formal.
Both are really nice! I think I prefer [name_m]William[/name_m]… though [name_u]Asher[/name_u] is a fun more modern choice. Both pair really well with [name_u]James[/name_u] though [name_m]William[/name_m] probably matches a little better style wise. I love [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]! [name_m]William[/name_m] has a lot of nicknames ([name_m]Will[/name_m], [name_u]Liam[/name_u], [name_u]Billy[/name_u]) and is decidedly boy whereas [name_u]Asher[/name_u] just has [name_u]Ash[/name_u] and is more unisex. [name_m]William[/name_m] is more popular but less trendy.
This is where I’m getting stuck! [name_m]William[/name_m] feels really formal, plus super popular. [name_u]James[/name_u] is popular too, but it’s never felt overly formal to me. I feel like we’ll just end up calling him [name_m]Will[/name_m], which I’m not sure I love. Names as so difficult!
It has a really nice flow to it, which I think draws me to [name_u]Asher[/name_u], even though [name_m]William[/name_m] has family significance and is possibly a more classic choice like [name_u]James[/name_u].
You’re so right. I’m wondering if [name_u]Asher[/name_u] is becoming too popular? [name_m]William[/name_m] certainly feels more classic, like [name_u]James[/name_u]. A main concern is that we’ll just end up calling him [name_m]Will[/name_m] all the time and I don’t know how I feel about that. I don’t like “[name_m]Will[/name_m] will be there” etc but perhaps I’m just over thinking it!
I’m really drawn to the [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Asher[/name_u] combo too. There’s something about the softness of both names that makes my heart sing.
Well it sounds like [name_m]William[/name_m] isn’t the name for you - [name_m]William[/name_m] has a formality that [name_u]James[/name_u] doesn’t, and you aren’t sure if you like [name_m]Will[/name_m], which you would probably call them.
You said that [name_m]William[/name_m] has family significance, so would you be willing to move it to the middle? [name_u]Asher[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m] is a nice combo.
Vincent is also a family name, with closer connection than [name_m]William[/name_m] so I’d like to use it first. I think I’m leaning towards keeping [name_m]William[/name_m] as a middle name if we’re ever fortunate enough to be blessed with a third child who happens to be a boy.
I love the flow of [name_u]Asher[/name_u] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] too, but then I think of all the times I’ve used my son’s full name and tell n my myself that the middle name doesn’t really matter anyway! It’s a vicious circle in my mind.
