I was hoping for a [name_u]Reed[/name_u]/[name_u]Reid[/name_u] or [name_u]Reece[/name_u] as a brother for [name_m]Luke[/name_m], but husband is not loving those options. [name_u]Reece[/name_u] is still in play as a middle name.
The two we can agree on are [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u]. He’s worried about [name_m]William[/name_m] being shortened/nicknamed when we’d both prefer the full name.
Two questions:
What’s your vote between the two, and why?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]William[/name_m] can survive as a full name or are we destined to nicknames?
[name_u]James[/name_u] - It’s warm and intelligent, and [name_u]James[/name_u] could be the perfect name for any boy or man. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though there are plenty of Jameses in the world, I feel like I don’t meet enough Jameses. I also have an irrational hatred of [name_m]William[/name_m], so there’s that too.
I know plenty of guys named [name_m]William[/name_m] who don’t use nicknames. It’s very doable.
[name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u] go perfectly together, so [name_u]James[/name_u] gets my vote.
Yes, [name_m]William[/name_m] could go by [name_m]William[/name_m] and not go by a nickname. I have plenty of family members and friends that have never gone by a nickname.
[name_m]William[/name_m]. Because I think [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]Reece[/name_u] sounds much better than [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Reece[/name_u]. And it’s a pretty fantastic name
Yes you can get away with just [name_m]William[/name_m]. I know of several [name_m]Williams[/name_m] without a nickname.
[name_m]Both[/name_m] are lovely names btw. You can’t go wrong with either as a little brother to [name_m]Luke[/name_m] (which is another lovely name)
I love both names - they’re classic and timeless. If I was going to be a boy, I was going to be a [name_m]William[/name_m]! Instead, I am [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and survived a life without nn’s until I turned about 13, but it was my own choice to do so. [name_m]Even[/name_m] now, my family and parents still call me [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
If I had to choose I would go with [name_m]William[/name_m], but I adore [name_u]James[/name_u] as well both sound gorgeous next to [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. Another fabulous name
I think both [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u] are wonderful names. If you used [name_u]James[/name_u] though you might feel the need to use another biblical name for a third baby.
I think you can do no nicknames. Outside of being called pumpkin by my Dad, I never really had a nickname. My 8-year-old is shedding his nicknames [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] or [name_m]Ted[/name_m] in favor of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], and although people who have known him most of his life still call him by his nicknames new teachers and new classmates have all been calling him by his full name.
@candancemarie, it’s funny you say that because my husband is another gospel name (in addition to [name_m]Luke[/name_m]) so we figured we needed to avoid the other two yet unused gospel names! Okay with another biblical name though, especially as we just plan on having two kids.
I would vote for [name_u]James[/name_u] bc that’s what I’m naming my son next week, so I’m slightly partial!
I love the name [name_m]William[/name_m], however I like the nn [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. Personally I think you can keep it [name_m]William[/name_m] or any full name if you want, all you have to do is gently correct people the first few weeks and only call him [name_m]William[/name_m] and it will stick.
I adore both of your choices - you cannot go wrong! Personally, I slightly prefer [name_u]James[/name_u] because I find the sound more appealing and adore the nickname [name_u]Jem[/name_u].
But if you do choose [name_m]William[/name_m], I think if you’re firm with your assertion that you dislike any nicknames, people will quickly learn.
