I stumbled across this post while searching for advice on shortening my name. My name is [name_m]Willie[/name_m] [name_m]Joe[/name_m], a double name like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f] etc. Now that I’m older I’m wanting to shorten it. I have a speech disorder and sometimes get stuck on W’s especially when speaking in time pressured situations like introducing myself…not such a problem when giving my name at a drive thru etc. Also, 3 syllable words can be an issue, see my problem lol? I’ve always hated [name_m]Willie[/name_m] by itself and hated when people called me that. My parents are both gone now but they never once called me [name_m]Willie[/name_m], always [name_m]Willie[/name_m] [name_m]Joe[/name_m]. [name_m]Not[/name_m] a big fan of W.J. either. I’ve considered going by [name_m]Joe[/name_m] and have used it to order a pizza, coffee, etc. It leaked out to a couple of friends, and they called me that for a bit and I really liked it…but it’s very frustrating knowing it will always cause big time confusion with people I’ve always known. I’ve had multiple setbacks lately and I’ve given up. They will never ever leave the [name_m]Willie[/name_m] off and I’m very understanding of how hard of a habit that could be to break. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if several do it, everyone never would. That’s the main reason I’m considering Will…because if none of the old people support it, it won’t matter. [name_m]Will[/name_m] works for everyone much better. It’s 100 percent normal to shorten it to [name_m]Will[/name_m] and only about 10 percent normal to shorten it to [name_m]Joe[/name_m]. Agree? Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
