Willow: Wow or Meh?

Okay, what are your honest thoughts on [name_f]Willow[/name_f], berries?

Is it too early 2000s trendy or do you think it still holds its own as a pretty, unique nature name? I’m currently crushing on the nn [name_m]Will[/name_m] or [name_u]Billie[/name_u]!

FYI I didn’t watch [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] so I don’t personally have that connection but did grow up when it was popular. Our alternative is [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] but the main drawback is that it doesn’t have a nn we love.

Thanks, x

I think [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] is much more 2000s trendy/meh than [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] itself isn’t my style, either, but I think it’s much more acknowledged these days as a legitimate name than [name_f]Meadow[/name_f].

I see a lot of people on the NB forums suggest [name_f]Willa[/name_f], for which nicknames [name_m]Will[/name_m]/[name_u]Billie[/name_u] could work just as well!

@jrave Interesting! Okay good to know.

I do like [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and have had it on my list previously. My hesitation is that it could sound like [name_m]Will[/name_m]-uhhh…you pass the salt? If you know what I mean haha.

[name_f]Willow[/name_f] is nice - I’ve heard it a couple of times, but not very often! There’s something soft and wispy about it, but also something quite fun and lively. [name_m]Will[/name_m] and [name_u]Billie[/name_u] are great nickname possibilities - I think [name_u]Billie[/name_u] actually sells it to me
I love [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] but I think [name_f]Willow[/name_f] has the advantage of feeling more versatile and very wearable

I love it. I don’t think it has wow factor, but it definitely isn’t meh. [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] is very Sopranos and so I put it as early 2000s trendy, but [name_f]Willow[/name_f] definitely not!

[name_f]Willow[/name_f] is gorgeous. Its sound and imagery is too serene and elegant to feel trendy, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I agree that it feels a lot more versatile than [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], which is sweet for a little girl or a pretty, bohemian young woman, but might be more of a burden to some body or personality types. [name_u]Billie[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is inspired, too!

I still like [name_f]Willow[/name_f], even if it is somewhat trendy. I really do like [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] too, I think it just depends on how bad you want a nickname.

I think [name_f]Willow[/name_f] sounds much more wearable than [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], which doesn’t sound like a name to me (although that might just be because I don’t come from a country where it’s ever been popular). [name_f]Willow[/name_f] isn’t my style, but I can definitely picture it on a child.

Honestly, I don’t love [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. Something about it does read very early 2000s trendy to me. It also reminds me of the 80s quest movie. The sound is nice and wispy, but somehow I can never quite get behind this as a girls name.

I do like [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], though, so my feelings are probably all arbitrary.

I have a [name_f]Willow[/name_f], so I am biased  but it is such a beautiful, soft, and peaceful name. We always get compliments on it. I couldn’t imagine not having a [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. xo

I wouldn’t say early 2000s because all the Willows I know were born after 2010, as with [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. It’s not anywhere near as popular as the zillion [name_f]Lily[/name_f]'s, but I must say I much prefer [name_f]Wilma[/name_f] or [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] to [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. Matter of tastes I suppose, I don’t have [name_f]Willow[/name_f] but not loving it either, I guess it’s meh for me

Sorry, but I don’t like it. It’s a nice name for a little girl but doesn’t feel quite substantial enough for a grown woman.

[name_f]Willow[/name_f] isn’t overly associated with any particular time period, in my mind. It’s quite a pretty name, and your adorable nickname ideas definitely lend it some freshness. I love the imagery and history surrounding willow trees. However, I would not call it rare: It’s top 100 in the United States, and super popular overseas.

It doesn’t sound dated to me at all. I’ve never met a [name_f]Willow[/name_f] (except for a dog) so I think I would enjoy meeting a little girl with the name. It may even strike me as a “wow” sort of name just because it’s different from many names popular today.

I much prefer [name_f]Willow[/name_f] over [name_m]Will[/name_m] or [name_u]Billie[/name_u] though.

I don’t think [name_f]Willow[/name_f] is early 2000s trendy, in fact, I don’t think it belongs to a certain time period. I’ve met/heard of Willows that were born in many different time periods, so I don’t think it would be considered early 2000s trendy. I prefer [name_f]Willow[/name_f] to [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], I think it sounds more like a name.

Thank you all for your feedback!

So [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] was a name we got really excited about when we were expecting. I love it! Unfortunately we had some bad feedback about it being a word and very “hippy”. It confuses me as I see it on par with [name_f]Willow[/name_f] which is very popular right now (in [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand)

I would choose [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] by far. To me it’s soft, strong with pretty imagery. The nicknames I liked are Meady (rhyme with [name_f]Edie[/name_f]) or [name_u]Mo[/name_u]

I love the name [name_f]Willow[/name_f]…it’s one I’d consider for myself if I were to change my name. The imagery I get is of a quiet girl w/long dark brown hair & grey eyes who loves to read, be outside in nature, loves animals, & has an artistic bent.

It’s neither wow or meh for me.
It used to be wow earlier, I thought it sounded so beautiful and magical, and that it was unique. Now I keep seeing and hearing it more and more, and it feels a bit like a trendy name more and more young parents pick trying to use unique name.
But it’s still very beautiful, and still not meh for me!
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f] is cute, but I feel like it’s a bit oudated

I like [name_f]Willow[/name_f], but it’s always been a bit lackluster to me. You know that feeling when there’s a name that should fit in perfectly on your list and has a great meaning and sound and everything but when you look at it you just feel absolutely nothing? That’s [name_f]Willow[/name_f] for me.

But it’s a lovely name for someone else!
